🐾 August is Itchy Pet Awareness Month! 🐶🐱

Is your pet constantly scratching, licking, chewing, or shaking their head? Itching isn’t something your pet should have to “just live with.” August is Itchy Pet Awareness Month—a great time to learn more about what may be causing your pet’s discomfort and how veterinary care can help.

🐾 Why Does My Pet Itch?
There are many possible causes of itchy skin, including:

🔹 Parasites – Fleas, ticks, and mites can cause significant irritation and itching.

🔹 Allergies – Pets can develop allergies to environmental triggers such as pollen and dust, or to certain ingredients in their food.

🔹 Skin & Ear Infections – Bacteria and yeast can overgrow on irritated skin and may make itching even worse.

🔹 Dry or Irritated Skin – Dry air, frequent bathing, or harsh grooming products can contribute to skin irritation.

🚩 Signs Your Pet May Need Veterinary Care

Keep an eye out for:
• Excessive licking, chewing, or scratching
• Constant chewing or licking of the paws
• Red, inflamed, or thickened skin
• Hair loss or bald spots
• Raw or bleeding areas/hot spots
• Frequent head shaking or scratching at the ears
• An unusual odor coming from the skin or ears

Persistent itching can lead to painful skin and ear infections, so treating the underlying cause is important. Over-the-counter products or home remedies may provide temporary relief but may not address the reason your pet is itchy.

💙 Don’t let your pet suffer through another itchy day! If you notice persistent scratching, licking, or other skin changes, give our veterinary team a call. We can help determine what’s causing the problem and develop a treatment plan to get your pet feeling more comfortable.

Birdie came in today for her last round of puppy vaccines and got some extra love from our very own “Dogtor” Moore! 🥰

Puppy vaccines are an important part of keeping growing pups protected from serious and potentially life-threatening diseases. Completing their vaccine series gives them the healthy start they deserve! ❤️

Birdie was such a good girl—we’re giving her a big round of a-paws! 👏🐾

Hot weather can be dangerous for pets. Help keep them safe by:

🐾 Walking during the cooler morning or evening hours
🔥 Testing pavement with the back of your hand for 7 seconds before walks
💧 Providing plenty of fresh, cool water
❄️ Keeping pets in cool, well-ventilated spaces
🚗 Never leave pets unattended in a parked car

Know the signs of heatstroke: excessive panting, drooling, weakness, or collapse. If you notice these symptoms, move your pet to a cool area, wet them with cool (not ice-cold) water, and seek veterinary care immediately.

Stay cool, stay safe, and enjoy summer together! ❤️

🎆 Fireworks can be one of the most stressful times of the year for our pets. The good news is there are many ways to help reduce their anxiety!

🐾 Keep pets safely indoors during fireworks and celebrations.

🦴 Create a quiet, comfortable space with favorite toys, treats, and soft music or TV to help mask loud noises.

🏷️ Double-check that your pet's ID tags and microchip information are current in case they become frightened and escape.

We hope you have a fun and safe Fourth of July! ❤️🤍💙 Please help keep your furry family members safe and comfortable during the celebrations.
