🐴 Sometimes learning happens best when it doesn't feel like a lesson.

At the farm, you might practice communication while working together on an activity.

Building confidence might look like approaching a horse for the first time.

Learning about boundaries might come from noticing how a horse responds.

And connection might begin simply by sharing an experience with someone else.

That's part of what makes the Fall Friendship Group different.

Through six sessions of hands-on experiences with horses, peers, movement, mindfulness, and activities, participants have opportunities to practice important social-emotional skills in an environment designed to be engaging, supportive, and fun.

There isn't one right way to show up.

There's simply space to participate, explore, learn, and connect.

Something changes when we give ourselves permission to slow down.

Throughout our Spirit of Equus workshops this year, we've watched participants arrive carrying the busyness of everyday life and gradually settle into the experience.

They spend time outside.
They become more aware of what's happening in their bodies.
They interact with the horses.
They notice what comes up.
They reflect and share when they want to.

And often, something becomes clearer simply because they've had the space to notice it.

One participant shared:
"This is an amazing workshop and grounding space with master guides. If life feels like it’s getting tense and wound up, definitely consider taking this workshop to find some grounding and peace."

Running with Horses builds upon the same kind of experiences we've been creating in our workshops, and instead of gathering once, we'll return to this work together over nine months.

More time to notice.
More time to practice.
More time to integrate what you're learning into your life.

🐴 Our journey begins October 3rd at Essence of Equus Farm in Rogers.

Sometimes the right job changes everything.

There was a time when I needed a confidence-building horse for a young rider.
The horse she had been riding became sick, and suddenly I really needed another horse who could step into that role.

When Braveheart came here, I remember having a conversation with him.

I basically said: “Look, I need your help.”

And something clicked. He was so good.

I remember riding him one day while this young rider was in the barn. I called her over and told her I wanted her to ride him.

She didn't even have shoes on. 😂

But that was the beginning of Braveheart becoming her horse for the next couple of years.

It's one of the things I find so interesting about horses.

They have different strengths. Different personalities. Different things they enjoy doing.

Sometimes part of our job is simply paying enough attention to recognize where they fit.

💚 Have you ever had someone recognize a strength in you that you hadn't quite seen in yourself yet?

💚 Connection takes time. So does confidence.

That's one of the reasons our Fall Friendship Group takes place over six sessions.

Rather than meeting once, participants have the opportunity to return to the same group, continue building relationships, become more comfortable with the horses, and practice new skills over time.

Each experience gives them something to build on.

A little more familiarity.
A little more trust.
Another opportunity to try something new.
Another chance to connect with someone in the group.

Growth doesn't always happen in one big moment. Often, it happens through small experiences that build on one another.

That's what we hope to create throughout our Fall Friendship Group, a place where participants have time and space to learn, connect, and grow together.

🐴 Meet Braveheart.

Braveheart is around 18 years old and has been part of our family for about 12 years.

And if you want to know a little about his personality, this photo pretty much says it. 😊

Braveheart is full of personality. He's expressive, playful, and he really likes to play with the ball. I've joked that he's a little like a Labrador in horse form.
He's also a very clear communicator.

A lot of times, during someone's first riding lesson, we don't ride at all. We start by learning about safe communication, brushing, and how horses communicate with us, and Braveheart is often one of the horses I'll choose.

He's really clear about what he likes and what he doesn't like, which makes him a pretty great teacher.

If Braveheart could give us one piece of advice, I think it would be:
Say what you mean and mean what you say.

Something we can probably all learn from. 💚

One of the most meaningful lessons horses teach is that they don't respond to the stories we tell ourselves.

They don't see our job title.
They don't know our past.
They aren't concerned with whether we think we're "doing it right."

They simply respond to who we are in the present moment.

That can be both humbling and incredibly freeing.

Time with horses has a way of helping us notice the stories we've been carrying and gently inviting us to let go of the ones that no longer serve us.

It's one of the many reasons this journey is so transformative.

Running with Horses isn't about learning to ride.

It's about learning to reconnect—with yourself, with others, and with the wisdom horses have to offer.

If you're looking for a different kind of personal growth experience this fall, we'd love to have you join us.

💚 Who might benefit from our Fall Friendship Group?

Every young person is different, but this group may be a good fit for ages 11–15 who:

✨ Enjoy animals, nature, and being outdoors
✨ Learn well through hands-on experiences
✨ Would enjoy opportunities to connect with peers in a small-group setting
✨ Want to strengthen communication and friendship skills
✨ Are building confidence in themselves and their relationships
✨ Would enjoy learning alongside horses in a supportive environment

No horse experience is needed.

And this isn't about being a perfect friend or already feeling confident in a group. It's about having a place to practice.

Throughout the six sessions, participants will have opportunities to work together, take turns, communicate, solve problems, encourage one another, and reflect on their experiences.

Our hope is to create a space where participants can learn, connect, and discover their own strengths—one experience at a time.

🦅 We don't always need to have the answers.

One of the things horses—and nature—continue to teach me is that we don't always have to figure everything out right away.

When something feels uncertain, our first instinct is often to fix it, solve it, or push through it.

But the natural world doesn't rush.

Horses don't rush.

They stay present.
They pay attention.
They respond to what's happening in the moment instead of worrying about what comes next.

I've found that some of life's greatest clarity comes when we're willing to pause... to observe... and to trust that not every answer has to arrive immediately.

Sometimes the next step becomes clear only after we've been still long enough to truly listen.

Nature has a beautiful way of reminding us that there is wisdom in patience.

When people visit the farm for the first time, they often comment on how peaceful it feels.

I don't think it's just the horses.

It's the land.

The trees.

The birds.

The quiet.

The opportunity to step away from the constant noise of everyday life.

Over the years, this has become more than a place where horses live.

It's become a place where people come to breathe, reconnect, learn, heal, and simply be.

I'm grateful to share it with all who visit. 🌿🐴

🌿 What does a session in our Fall Friendship Group actually look like?

This isn't a program where participants simply sit and talk about friendship skills. They'll have opportunities to practice them through hands-on experiences at the farm.

Over the course of the group, participants may:

🐴 Meet and observe members of the herd
🌿 Explore the farm and learn about boundaries and safety
👀 Practice noticing body language and nonverbal cues
🤝 Work together on collaborative farm activities
💚 Groom horses while practicing cooperation and turn-taking
🐎 Navigate activities that involve trust, leadership, and following directions
✨ Reflect on how they showed up as a friend that day

Each experience gives participants an opportunity to learn by doing—alongside peers and our equine partners.
