Meet Hondo!

One thing we always love to see is when puppy parents reach out right away, and Hondo’s dad did exactly that! As soon as Hondo came home, he got in touch to start building the skills that will help set him up for success for years to come.

We’re currently working on:
🐶 Basic foundational skills
🐶 Building reliable off-leash behaviors and engagement
🐱 Learning how to peacefully live with the resident cat

The puppy stage can be a lot of work, but it’s also the best time to start creating good habits before undesirable behaviors have a chance to develop. Hondo is off to a great start, and we’re excited to watch him grow!

Baby Frito came to hang out with us for a few hours today 🐾

We played, napped, played some more, and did a little training.

Here he is working on responding to his name!

A few tips when teaching puppies their name:
🐶 Keep sessions short: just 3–4 reps at a time
🐶 Don’t use their name unless you’re 99% sure they’ll respond
🐶 After rewarding, send them back to whatever fun thing they were doing
🐶 The more safe outdoor freedom and exploration, the better!

Dogs have very little agency or autonomy in their day-to-day lives. We decide when they eat, where they go, who they interact with, when they sleep, when they potty, etc.

Because of that, I try to offer Fenna small choices whenever I can. Today I gave her the option between a pig’s ear and a camel cheek chew. She carefully chose the camel cheek… and then chose to take it outside to enjoy in the grass.

Choice can build confidence, reduce frustration, and help dogs feel safer and more in control of their environment 🖤

Fenna gets seen by a rehab vet every other month for adjustments, laser, and shockwave therapy.

She doesn’t have the best history in veterinary settings, so here I am sitting on the floor with her, offering some massage and social support to help her relax a bit.

Sometimes what our pets need is coregulation and someone they trust helping them feel safe 💕

Sometimes the best thing for a highly fearful or anxious dog (black poodle client, Olivia) is another calm, stable dog (Maddy’s Aussie, Chester) to spend time with 😌

Confident dogs can act as social guides. They move through the world without alarm, investigate new environments calmly, and show the fearful dog that nothing bad is happening. Over time, the worried dog starts to mirror that emotional state. They sniff where the other dog sniffs, walk where the other dog walks, and begin to relax simply because their buddy is relaxed 💕

We often see fearful dogs make bigger strides walking with a neutral, steady dog than they do working alone. The presence of a safe, predictable companion can lower arousal, reduce scanning, and help them process the environment without feeling overwhelmed.

Sometimes confidence is contagious.
And sometimes the best teacher… is another dog 🐕 ❤️ 🐕

Some real-life transparency from a dog trainer & business owner 🙋‍♀️🐾

Did you know we offer dog walks and enrichment hikes for those days when life gets full (because… it does)?!

And yes…I personally use our dog walking services.

Between running a business, working with clients, and being a mom, there are days I can’t get my own dog out for the kind of walk she deserves. On those days, I schedule a walk with Maddy, our amazing dog walker, so my dog still gets her physical and mental needs met.
