This week we are showing you the faces behind the scenes!


Today we are highlighting Heidi, our Shelter Manager.

We on the Red Desert Humane Society Board thank our lucky stars every day that she is out there with the animals, but every now and then you have to say, “THANK YOU HEIDI!” for all the stuff that she does. (It really is a bit amazing. . . )
So—Thanks for your skillful selections of dogs, cats, and potential adopters. Your judgement on picking pets and people is just about perfect. We can’t imagine better selections.
Thanks for keeping a clean and healthy Shelter. The building always smells fresh and clean and should impress even the most critical people who enter. You, Olivia, and the other employees do great with this.
It is difficult to be appreciative enough of the job you do with dealing with crisis like Parvo and fending off the other serious conditions that threaten the operation. Unvaccinated animals like pups and kittens are always at risk, and it takes a huge amount of work to make the place safe for them.
I could go on and on, but importantly, great job on adoption events and public relations. It is not easy to have good relations out there in the real world, but you seem to manage it effortlessly. A charming personality and firm decisions are major assets.
It is a pleasure working with you!

🎉 Employee Appreciation Week

This week we are highlighting the faces behind all the hard work!

Since joining us as a cleaner/animal caretaker in August of 2025, Amaya has quietly become an important part of our team. The love and care she has for the animals shines through every day. One thing she said that really stuck, was that this is “the hardest and most rewarding job I have ever had.” Anyone involved in animal welfare knows exactly how true that is.
We appreciate all of Amaya’s hard work and are thankful to have her as part of our team.
