Watermelon Mountain Ranch was founded in 1996 by Lee and Sophia DiClemente whose love for animals continues to flow through the day-to-day operations at the Ranch. What began as a grassroots effort with a small dedicated group of volunteers has grown in

to New Mexico's Largest No Kill Animal Shelter, encompassing a 10 acre main campus facility, two resale stores, offsite adoption centers and various humane programs serving the community. These programs include our Canine/Feline Foster Care, Humane Education, Volunteers, on- site Vet Clinic, Lee's Retirement Village (for senior dogs), Don's Angel Fund (for injured animals), and our most successful program, Molly's Mercy Missions (saving animals facing euthanasia in shelters across the Southwest and Juarez Mexico). Since the inception of Watermelon Mountain Ranch, we have helped to save the lives of over 200,000 animals, placing them in loving homes and are New Mexico's largest no-kill animal shelter. 💚"Hi, I'm Olaf and I like warm hugs!"⛄ This humorous hunk has the goofiest face, thanks to his handsome underbite! This young lad has been through quite a bit in his young life, already. He was adopted from us when he was a large puppy, and sadly came back to us because his previous owners overfed Olaf (see 2nd pic for reference!) and he was at a WHOPPING 111lbs! But with a healthier diet and a lot of walks & play, Olaf is no longer rounder than a snowball, melted off the pounds, and is now at a cooler weight of 72lbs! Olaf can be a little cold when meeting new people, but he warms up very quickly if you give him time to melt! He loves playing with other dogs as part of his exercise, so if you have another dog, we recommend bringing them along to meet. Some dogs are worth melting for, and Olaf is ready and willing to be your lovably funny sidekick in the next chapter of his tale...In Summer and every other season! 💚

💚Happy Tuesday! Let's say hello to Cherry, and this Cherry is so very! 🍒At close to 15lbs, Cherry is a beautiful little lady with a lot of class and a little bit of sass! Cherry is sweet, but can be tart! She can be a little choosy with meeting new people, so she will let you know if you're the one for her! Cherry gets along great with other dogs that let her be the boss, so if you have another dog, we highly recommend bringing them along to meet (but we suspect Cherry would prefer being the only spoiled girl in the household!). Cherry really is a fantastic little lady, and finding her forever home would really be the CHERRY on top!💚

💚ALL ABOARD! Let's start June off ROCKIN' with this Rockstar pup.🤘
Meet Ozzy, our Prince of Dogness! 🦇 This handsome, 56lb pup still has a little more room to grow. Ozzy may be just a Dreamer, but he's also a smart and friendly boy. And because he's still a young boy, he needs a little more training on all the ways it takes to be a great dog. He needs a home where he has a lot of activities and fun exercise. Ozzy plays well with the other dogs here, but can be a little choosy. If you have another dog, we highly recommend bringing them along to meet. Ozzy cannot wait to find his forever person so he can say "Mama, I'm Coming Home!"💚

Let's end the month of May with a sweet Senior Sunday! Meet Bellara!

Her name is an Aboriginal word that translates to "good", and that perfectly describes this beautiful senior girl! This 40lb cattle dog mix is a love bug, and loves to snuggle after a good time playing and going on walks! She also loves to play with her toys, especially Lambchop stuffies, but she does tend to destroy them a little too easy! If she's not active, she can get on the chonky side, so she needs her forever person to keep her active and healthy! Bellara is not a fan of smaller dogs, and would do best in a home with dogs her size. If you have another dog, we often recommend bringing them along to meet. (But we suspect Bellara may honestly prefer being an only dog.) And because she is a heeler mix, she does have separation anxiety, so she'd be best in a home where the owner is home more often than not. Bellara just wants to be your loyal, loving companion, and your best mate. Bellara is simply ready to be your good girl, and to start the next chapter in her life.
