We train for every day life not just "tricks". Yankee is only a little over a week in the Forever Home Fundamentals training program and is advancing quickly. He is a fun young dog that is getting a great foundation! He is available at RACC for adoption!

This is enrichment!

Sometimes the simplest activities provide meaningful benefits for our dogs. Chewing isn't just something dogs enjoy. It's a natural behavior that supports their physical and mental well-being.

Mental Engagement – Provides a stimulating activity that keeps your dog occupied.
Natural Instinct – Gives your dog an appropriate outlet for their natural desire to chew.
Encourages Calm – Chewing can be a soothing activity that helps dogs relax and settle.
Independent Activity – Helps dogs learn to enjoy downtime without constant interaction or entertainment.

The takeaway? Enrichment doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes it's as simple as providing a safe, appropriate chew and letting your dog enjoy it.

Remember to choose chews appropriate for your dog and supervise chewing. Very hard items, including bones, can damage teeth.

Doggin’ Around RVA: Hidden Rock Park

Not every dog-friendly adventure needs to be a big one!

Located in Goochland County, Hidden Rock Park offers a relatively small, laid-back setting for getting outside with your dog. While it may not be a destination for a long hike, it's a nice option for a quick outing, a little exploring, and some quality time together.

One of the things we love about visiting different parks is giving dogs the opportunity to experience new sights, sounds, and smells. Even a short walk in an unfamiliar environment can provide valuable mental stimulation.

DTF Training Tip: Try letting your dog lead the way with their nose for part of your walk. Sniffing is a natural behavior that provides enrichment and makes the experience more rewarding.

East is the newest Forever Home Fundamentals graduate! He has a good foundation and is ready and waiting for his family. All FHF enrollees go home with information on what they have learned and videos on how to continue the training if you would like.
