Dog training is like working with goats: you're trying to convince another species that listening to you is their idea.

Okay, so maaaybe the puppies aren't as tricky as goats, but a lot of the best training happens when the dog decides that listening was, in fact, their idea.

On this Memorial Day, enjoy your families, friends, and outdoor activities β€” but I also hope you'll take a moment of silence for those service members who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Plot twist: the guilty look isn't always guilt. Here are a few reasons dogs give you the side-eye:

1. They're being playful! Some dogs side-eye right before bolting off in zoomies.

2. They're showing they're not a threat. Dogs don't always like full eye contact because it can be interpreted as a threat. So, the side-eye is a way to look without being rude.

3. Resource guarding. You may see this when your dog doesn't want to give up a toy or a bone to you or another dog. This one's a little trickier and you have to know your dog to know whether it's a problem.

There are more reasons and if your dog is always giving you the side-eye, I can help you figure out what's going on. Then fix it if it needs fixing.

Memorial Day is coming up, will your dog be stuck at home because you can't trust them outside... or around strangers... or other dogs?

This holiday may be off-limits for your pooch, but what if I told you that could change...maybe in time to take a summer trip with the family?

After working with hundreds of dogs, I've learned that most of the problems start early... and even if you've struggled for years there's still hope for a better life for your dog.

When you're ready to give your pooch a fresh start, set up a free consultation. I'm not going to pressure you, or make fancy promises that I can't keep β€” but I will give you the honest truth about what's going on with your dog, what signs I'm seeing, and the best way I've found to fix the problems.

Scheduling your free consultation is easy! Just send a DM and we'll get started.

Let's get your dog ready for their public appearances this summer!

Do you ever wonder what you should teach your puppy... and when? Or...when are they going to be ready for formal obedience?

You're not alone.

The simple truth is that puppies start learning from the moment they come home, but the learning they're doing is all about how to become a part of your pack.

Formal obedience doesn't start until much later.

Here's what I teach and when:

Did you know you can train your dog in just 5–10 minutes a day?

Most people think dog training means long, exhausting sessions. It doesn't. In fact, that'll just wear your dog out and frustrate you. They won't learn and you'll think they cant.

Short, focused bursts are more effective β€” dogs stay engaged, you stay patient, and the lessons stick.

Five minutes before breakfast. Five minutes before dinner. That's it. You'd be amazed what a dog can learn in a week.

Drop a comment or send me a message β€” the consult is free and I'll show you exactly what your dog needs.

5 minutes of focused training beats 30 minutes of frustrated repetition.

Dogs (and people) learn best when practice sessions end on a win, so keep it short, short, focused, and end on a win.

If you're wondering how I teach leash pressure and "yes!" -- here's day one with a new board and train doggo.

Initially, I let the dog go all the way to the end of the leash and when they turn around on their own...it's "yes!" with a treat. It doesn't take long before they understand the treat-yes connection and leash pressure is just as quick.

Follow along on this dog's training journey -- she's a quick study!
