Rebecca's Paws & Claws Rescue and Sanctuary

10/14/2026

Ruby was adopted this weekend. She has a wonderful home in New Orleans. She is settling in very well. We wanted to thank everyone who donated to diagnose and treat her eyes. She had entropy surgery on both eyes. She did great with it and handled her healing process like a champ. Thank you everyone who prayed, donated and shared for her.

🐾 Friendly Reminder: Beau’s Law Takes Effect October 1, 2026!🐾
We want to give everyone plenty of time to prepare. Beau’s Law does not mean you cannot restrain your dog outdoors, but it does establish new requirements for doing so safely and humanely.
If your dog is kept outside or tethered, please make sure:
• A dog tethered to a stationary object is secured using a proper trolley system.
• The tether has swivels on both ends to help prevent tangling.
• The dog wears a properly fitted collar or harness that does not restrict breathing or swallowing.
• Logging chains, choke collars and pinch collars cannot be used for tethering.
• The tether cannot allow the dog to leave the property, become tangled around objects or animals, or cross an edge that could cause injury or strangulation.
• The dog must always have adequate food, clean drinking water and appropriate shelter from the weather.
• Outdoor shelters must have a roof, walls and a floor, with enough room for the dog to stand, turn around, lie down and stretch comfortably.
• The dog’s shelter and living area must be kept clean and free from accumulated waste and standing water. Dogs should not be forced to stand, sit or lie in their own waste.
Violations may result in misdemeanor charges, fines and other legal consequences.
This post is not intended to shame anyone. It is simply a friendly but firm reminder to begin making the necessary changes now, before the law goes into effect. Our goal is to help our community understand the new requirements and keep every dog safe. Please share so Alabama dog owners have time to prepare!
