We're beginning to look for the next horse-owner partnership to join our farm family this summer! We're a small private farm where horse care comes first. With owners who live on-site, our horses enjoy 10–12+ hours of turnout daily, quality grazing, group turnout, and a feed program centered around quality Timothy/Orchard hay and Tribute feeds.

Our farm is home to horses in every stage of life and career—from babies just getting started, to active sport horses, horses who are rehabbing, and retirees enjoying their golden years. Whether your horse prefers pasture life or a stall, our goal is simple: happy horses and individualized care.

Yesterday, we laid our heart horse, Moon Pie, to rest. Southern Moon Stables is closed today in honor of the horse who started it all. This little farm exists because of him.

Years ago, when we brought Moon Pie home to retire here, this farm became Southern Moon Stables… named after him: the horse who changed our lives forever. The love and care we poured into him and many great memories grew into a deeper passion for creating a place where other horses could be loved and cared for the same way. Moon Pie started the small haven this farm is today.

This video was taken years ago on the day we brought him home to his farm. Today, we know he is running through the fields again just like this — free, peaceful, and pain free.

Moon Pie and Grace were best friends for almost 20 years. Thank you, Moon Pie, for being the reason this place began and for leaving hoofprints on our hearts that will never fade. There will never be another like you.

Forage first, always!

If there’s one thing that drives us absolutely nuts as trainers… is people cutting corners on HAY. Whether it's other trainers or boarding facilities.

Yes...HAY. The literal foundation of your horse’s diet.

We see it all the time: cheap, stemmy, low-quality forage getting fed while the same horses are loaded up with $50 bags of grain, trendy supplements, and every “miracle fix” on the market.

Make it make sense.

You cannot out-supplement poor forage. You just can’t.

Forage is one of the cheapest, most accessible, and most important things you can give your horse and yet it’s the first place people try to save a buck.

Want better weight, better topline, better guts...

Start with what they eat ALL day long.

We’ll say it louder for the people in the back:

Around here it’s quality alfalfa from babies to our 28-year-old retirees. No shortcuts, no excuses, and funny enough it hasn’t failed us yet.
