Our sweet boy Zane passed peacefully in his sleep last night. The video tells his story, read aloud — and for those who'd rather read it, his obituary is right below. 🤍
It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that I announce the passing of our boy, Zane. He passed peacefully in his sleep in the middle of the night.
Zane came to us from a breeder in Texas, and from the moment we picked him up at the airport, we knew he was special. His intelligence was almost human-like. Although he could be stubborn at times, he was also one of the most loyal and loving boys we could have ever asked for.
Zane was Gene's constant sidekick on the farm, and the two of them truly were each other's best friends. He was a show dog who earned his AKC Championship, but it was his exceptional temperament that truly set him apart. We incorporated him into our breeding program, hoping to pass his wonderful qualities and genetics on to future generations. He became the father of my heart dog, Ghost, as well as many other wonderful puppies who have gone on to fill the lives of so many families with love.
Zane loved his life at MisFit Farm and was adored by all the horse owners here. He vigilantly protected his flock of chickens from coyotes and was always the first to sound the alarm if anything seemed out of place. He absolutely LOVED children and graciously tolerated our barn cats. He took his role as farm protector seriously, but beneath that watchful exterior was the sweetest, most devoted boy.
We will miss him more than words can express, but we are so grateful that he did not suffer. He left us peacefully in his sleep, without a whimper.
We are especially thankful that, on his last day, he showed no signs of what was to come. He spent his time doing exactly what he loved: sleeping in the barn, hanging out with Gene, and lounging on the deck of the new studio. Had we known it would be his last day, perhaps we would have done more. But at the same time, we are grateful that he spent those final hours simply enjoying his life, on his own terms, in the places he loved most.
Perhaps he knew his time was near and, in his own way, chose to spare us the worry and the sadness of knowing that our time with him was coming to an end. We will never know. But there is some comfort in imagining that he knew it was time and quietly slipped away, leaving us with the memory of an ordinary, happy day with our extraordinary boy.
One thing we do know: our sweet Zane will be waiting for us when our time comes to cross the Rainbow Bridge.
Rest peacefully, our sweet boy. You were so loved, and you will never be forgotten. ❤️
