Are We Giving Our Dogs Conflicting Messages?

One of the most common mistakes dog owners makeโ€”often without even realizing itโ€”is sending mixed signals to their dogs. In a recent coaching call, we saw a perfect example of this in action.

a dog owner shared that she has a little Vizsla-mix puppy named Molly. As we chatted, Molly was running around the house, and the owner's reactions shifted quickly:

Calling Jolly Over: "Jolly, come here."

Then immediately redirecting: "Go sit down."

Reinforcing Again: "Come here."

and ...

Correcting: "Go lay down."

These rapid shifts in commands can be confusing for a dog, especially a young puppy who is still learning what is expected of her. AND -- especially with no reward or ntification Letโ€™s break down whatโ€™s happening and how we can improve our communication.

The Problem with Mixed Messages

Dogs thrive on clarity and consistency. When we rapidly change commands, they struggle to understand what we actually want. In Mollyโ€™s case:

๐Ÿค›First, she is invited to come.

When she comes over, there is zero aknowledgement for the correct behavior.

๐Ÿช‘Then, she is asked to sit.

When she sits, there is zero aknowledgement for the correct behavior.

๐Ÿค›Next, sheโ€™s invited to come again.

When she comes over, there is zero aknowledgement for the correct behavior.

๐ŸคšFinally, sheโ€™s told to go lay down.

Again, sent away immediately after being called close, and with no reward for any of the correct answers (coming or going).

From Mollyโ€™s perspective, she is trying to follow directions, but each new command contradicts the last one. There is no clear indication of where and when the correct answer occurs. This creates confusion, frustration, and even anxiety over time. โ‰๏ธโ‰๏ธโ‰๏ธโ‰๏ธ

How to Fix This๐Ÿค”

Here are a few key ways to avoid giving conflicting messages:

๐Ÿ‘“Decide on the Command Before Speaking โ€“ Instead of reacting in the moment, take a second to decide what you actually want your dog to do.

๐ŸŽฏUse Clear, Simple Commands โ€“ Stick to one directive at a time. If you say โ€œCome,โ€ follow through with that command before introducing a new one.

๐ŸŸฐ Be Consistent โ€“ Ensure that everyone in the household uses the same words and expectations for behaviors.

๐Ÿ†Reward the Right Behavior โ€“ If you say โ€œLay Down,โ€ donโ€™t suddenly reward your dog for coming over instead.

๐Ÿ”‡๐Ÿ”•Practice in Low-Distraction Environments โ€“ If your dog is still learning, practice commands in a quiet, distraction-free area before expecting them to listen in a high-energy setting.

The Takeaway

Our dogs are eager to please, but they need us to be clear and consistent. The next time you find yourself correcting or redirecting your dog, ask yourself: โ€œAm I being clear, or am I sending mixed messages?โ€ By improving our communication, we can create a better training experience and a stronger bond with our dogs.

The Business of Being Bold: A Lesson from a Fearless Woman

On International Womenโ€™s Day, I want to honor one of the toughest, most brilliant women Iโ€™ve ever metโ€”Torrance Watkins. She wasnโ€™t โ€œnice.โ€ In fact, many said she was downright mean. But greatness isnโ€™t built on making people comfortable. Itโ€™s built on pushing limits, demanding excellence, and cutting through the noise with truth.

I never technically worked for Torrance, but I did a lot of work for her. She saw my grit, my resilience, and my ability to figure things outโ€”so much so that she once invited me to work for her and tour Europe. A dream opportunity. One of the best female equestrians in the world, and she was offering me a seat at the table.

And I walked away.

Not because of the horror stories of her firing people and leaving them stranded. No, I was afraid of something much worseโ€”not being enough. Not strong enough. Not worthy enough.

Imposter syndrome stole that opportunity from me.

And yet, looking back, I see it so clearly: Torrance knew my worth. She saw my talent, my work ethic, my ability to leadโ€”even when I couldnโ€™t see it myself. She trusted me to handle her students, step in where needed, and bring order to chaos. So why couldnโ€™t I trust myself?

Itโ€™s a lesson I now bring into business every day. How often do we let self-doubt hold us back from opportunities weโ€™ve actually earned? How many times do we look at our wins and see only how far we have left to goโ€”never how far weโ€™ve come?

On this International Womenโ€™s Day, I challenge you to do what I couldnโ€™t at that moment: Own your value. Step into the space youโ€™ve already proven you belong in. Trust that the people who see something in you arenโ€™t wrong.

Great womenโ€”leaders, mentors, trailblazersโ€”arenโ€™t always โ€œnice.โ€ But they are honest. And sometimes, the hardest truth we need to hear is from ourselves: You are ready. You are capable. Take the damn opportunity.

Whatโ€™s one moment where you let fear hold you back? And how will you choose differently next time? Drop it in the commentsโ€”Iโ€™d love to hear your story.

Ever had a moment where something clicksโ€ฆ and then life gets in the way?

You get it. It makes sense. Itโ€™s powerful.

But then...
โ†’ The day-to-day creeps in.
โ†’ Other priorities take over.
โ†’ The insight that once felt life-changing starts to fade.

Thatโ€™s why the right reminders at the right time can be game-changers.

Sian, one of New Zealandโ€™s leading green architects, put it perfectly:

"I heard that, and I got it at the time... but Iโ€™m really glad you reminded me of that."

Because sometimes, we donโ€™t need new information.
We just need to reconnect with what we already know.

Whatโ€™s one powerful lesson you needed to hear twice before it truly stuck?

Wait! I bet you havenโ€™t heard this beforeโ€ฆ

Your revenue isnโ€™t capped. ๐Ÿš€

Your belief in whatโ€™s possible might be.

(Read that again.)

Most businesses donโ€™t hit a revenue ceiling because of the market.
Not because of their product.
Not because of the competition.

They hit a ceiling because they donโ€™t believe bigger is possible.

If you donโ€™t believe you can:
โ†’ Double your revenue
โ†’ Expand into new markets
โ†’ Scale without burning out

Then you wonโ€™t.

Your business will only grow as big as your mindset allows.

Break the ceiling. Raise the bar. Unlock your full potential.

Whatโ€™s one belief thatโ€™s helped you grow your revenue?

Ever feel like life just sucker-punched you in the face?

You had a plan.
You were making progress.
And thenโ€”BAM. Setback.

Most people get stuck here. I used to.

But now? I flip the script.

Hereโ€™s how I turn setbacks into my biggest breakthroughs:

๐Ÿ”น Acknowledge my emotions
Ignoring them doesnโ€™t work. Fighting them doesnโ€™t help.

Instead, I write them down. (Backed by science.)
โ†’ What am I feeling?
โ†’ Why am I feeling this way?

Then I do one of two things:
โœ”๏ธ Dissect it (find the root cause)
โœ”๏ธ Leave it behind (if itโ€™s just noise)

๐Ÿ”น Learn from the experience
Setbacks arenโ€™t proof of failure.
Theyโ€™re proof that youโ€™re ready for growth.

We werenโ€™t put on this planet to sit around eating bonbons all day. ๐Ÿ˜†

The lesson isnโ€™t always obvious, but itโ€™s there.
Even if itโ€™s as simple as learning perseverance.

๐Ÿ”น Realign my goals
Sometimes setbacks are just detours to a better destination.

I ask myself:
โ†’ Where did the challenge begin?
โ†’ How could I have pivoted earlier?

Because a renewed commitment often leads to breakthroughs you never saw coming.

And I leave you with this:

๐Ÿ’ก How can I become even better at focusing on solutions instead of setbacks?

Drop your thoughts below. ๐Ÿ‘‡

P.S. If this hit home, repost for your network. โ™ป๏ธ

๐Ÿšจ The Workplace is Changingโ€”But Are We Focusing on the Right Things? ๐Ÿšจ

Lately, thereโ€™s been a lot of debate about DEI rollbacks and return-to-office mandates. But the real conversation isnโ€™t just about policiesโ€”itโ€™s about workplace efficiency and revenue.

The numbers donโ€™t lie:

๐Ÿ”น Many businesses that embraced DEI are now seeing hits to revenue and margins.
๐Ÿ”น Some elements of DEI have been ruled unconstitutional in the U.S.
๐Ÿ”น The return-to-office push? The resistance isnโ€™t as widespread as it seems.

Take Jamie Dimon at JPMorgan Chase. He faced pushback over RTO, but only 950 employees signed a petitionโ€”out of 353,000. Thatโ€™s less than 0.3%.

The bigger issue? A lack of engagement and connection.

Companies thrive when employees are aligned, connected, and driving revenueโ€”not when theyโ€™re stuck in ideological battles.

Letโ€™s shift the focus:
๐Ÿ‘‰ Whatโ€™s the biggest challenge you see in todayโ€™s workplace? Drop a comment. ๐Ÿ‘‡

I bet you've been told: ๐—–๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐˜€ ๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐—ปโ€™๐˜ ๐—ฏ๐˜‚๐˜† ๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐˜‚๐—ฐ๐˜๐˜€. They buy trust.

You might need a double-take on that - look again, it's ok!

If youโ€™re struggling to connect with clients, itโ€™s not because your product isnโ€™t good.
Itโ€™s because youโ€™re focusing on the wrong thing.

Hereโ€™s how to attract clients who trust you, refer you, and stick around for the long haul:

๐Ÿ”น 1. Narrow your niche
This is about crafting a voice that connects - not about limiting who you serve.
Speak to the people you naturally connect with.

The result?
โ†’ More trust.
โ†’ Better relationships.
โ†’ More referrals from satisfied clients who see themselves in you.

๐Ÿ”น 2. Step into their identity
People donโ€™t just buy products.
They buy into the person they want to become.

Ask yourself:
โ†’ How does my client want to see themselves?
โ†’ How do they want others to see them?

Align with that, and youโ€™re not just selling. Youโ€™re elevating their identity.

๐Ÿ”น 3. Stop selling features. Start listening.
Your product is great, but your client doesnโ€™t care about its specs.

They care about:
โœ”๏ธ How it makes them feel.
โœ”๏ธ How it aligns with their goals.
โœ”๏ธ How it helps them become the person they want to be.

Listen more. Sell less. Win bigger.

Which of these do you think is the most powerful?

"Half of being smart is knowing what you are dumb at." โ€“ David Gerrold

Seriously - be honest. Thisi sn't about beating yourself up, and no I am not asking you to go study everything you are bad at.

The most successful people donโ€™t try to master everything.
They master knowing what they donโ€™t know.

They delegate.
They ask for help.
They stay curious.

Now, be honest: Whatโ€™s something you rely on smarter friends or colleagues for?

๐Ÿ”น Tech issues?
๐Ÿ”น Financial decisions?
๐Ÿ”น Marketing strategies?
๐Ÿ”น Negotiating deals?

๐ŸŽฅ Want a Simple Way to Stand Out? Try This. ๐ŸŽฅ

Most people send cold messages.
Some send emails.
Few send personalized video or voice messages. ๐ŸŽค

This week, try this simple framework:

๐Ÿ”น Record a 30-90 second video or voice message for your prospects or clients.
๐Ÿ”น Keep it clear and concise. Example:

"At Sun Post Financing, we help businesses like yours secure the right financing with our 4C strategy: C1, C2, C3, C4."

(Just list themโ€”no deep dive!)

Then, close with:
"Want to know how Iโ€™m certain this is the right fit for you? DM me for more info or grab a time on my calendar here."

๐Ÿ’ก Bonus tip: Attach a picture of your business card or a flyer for extra credibility.

Small effort. Big impact. Ready to test this out? ๐Ÿš€

The Hidden Cost of Bad Meetings (And How to Fix Them)

Letโ€™s be realโ€ฆ most meetings are a waste of time.

โŒ Too many? Nothing gets done.
โŒ Too few? Teams lack direction.
โŒ Too long? People check out.
โŒ Too short? Nothing is resolved.

But when meetings are structured right, they can drive real business growth.

Hereโ€™s how high-performing leaders run meetings that energize teams and get results:

๐ŸŸข Start with a purpose โ€“ Decision-making? Problem-solving? Strategy? Define it.
๐ŸŸข Keep it structured โ€“ Use a proven framework (like the Tony Hsieh method).
๐ŸŸข Encourage ownership โ€“ Every discussion should end with clear action items.
๐ŸŸข Foster engagement โ€“ Rotate facilitators, recognize contributions, and spark innovation.

A well-run meeting isn't just about getting people in a roomโ€”itโ€™s about aligning efforts, solving challenges, and making real progress.

Specificity builds trust.

Micromanaging is killing your teamโ€™s growth (and your own).
I get it. You want things done right.
You have high standards.
You care about the details.

But hereโ€™s the reality: Micromanaging doesnโ€™t create better work. It creates bottlenecks.

๐Ÿšจ Your team feels disempowered.
๐Ÿšจ Innovation slows down.
๐Ÿšจ You become the single point of failure.

So how do you stop?

๐Ÿ”น Shift from control to coaching โ€“ Guide, donโ€™t dictate.
๐Ÿ”น Define clear expectations โ€“ Alignment beats over-supervision.
๐Ÿ”น Trust, then verify โ€“ Give autonomy, review outcomes, and adjust.

When you stop micromanaging, your team steps upโ€”and you free yourself to focus on the bigger picture.

Are you leading or controlling? Letโ€™s discuss. ๐Ÿ‘‡

โ™ป๏ธ Repost this if youโ€™ve been guilty of micromanaging before!
