Lyla and Heffer update:

Lyla is eating like there's no tomorrow lol. Her energy has spiked and her sneezing, watery eyes, & lack of energy has pretty much vanished. She is now acting like a normal 8 - 9 wk old kitten.

Heffer is also doing better. I had to add a .1ml shot of penicillin to her medication list on Saturday as she was weezing, having to try to breathe from her mouth, and sneezing worse than she was before. What I saw happening? I saw her coming down with pneumonia on top of everything else. Her original medication was an antibacterial (sulfa drug). It's not the best for the symptoms I was seeing coming from her. While her appetite has diminished, it is slowly coming back. The weezing is gone along with her feeling like she needs to breathe through her mouth. She still sneezes some. I'm just thankful I caught the symptoms as soon as I did.

I will get some photos of the girls soon. Have to take our twins to the foot Dr soon.

Lyla update: she went to the Vet today.

05/18/2021

Heffer's starting weight today was 5.3oz at her 10:30pm check she was at 5.8oz. So she is gaining weight which is good. I now weigh her before and after each feeding.

Lyla's starting weight today was 1lb 3.8oz at 10:30pm she weighed in at 1lb 5.2oz.
While I am encouraged by their gains today, it will take a few days of tracking to be sure they are gaining like they should.

Heffer is starting to learn how to drink from her bottle more and more. Soon I won't need the syringe to feed her. Now if I could just get Lyla to eat some canned food. 😒 I think I'm going to need to mix it in with her formula to get her started. But, it could also be that she still can't smell it correctly yet due to her stuffy nose. (Cat's determine if they want to eat something by smell 98% of the time, if not all the time.)

Anyhow that's your kitten update for the night. They are both snuggled up in their bed and now I must go to mine while I can. Lol Goodnight everyone

"Heffer" as my sister named her, is approx 2 weeks old. She had to be taken from her mom due to her being pretty sick. On 6/15 She was found cold and unresponsive. I got her warmed up and was delighted to see and have her squirming in my hands. Shortly after warming her up I realized just how sick she was and took her to my sisters veterinarian. There she was prescribed an antibiotic, eye medication, and I was instructed to hand raise her so she wouldn't infect the rest of her litter. Heffer was slow to take to the formula at first but now, she drinks quite a bit. I have to go get a scale so I can keep track of her weight as her medication dosage will increase as she gains weight and if she would happen to start to loose weight she will be promptly taken to the veterinarian again. My phones alarms are set to specific times where I must feed her, and medicate her.

So the tiny kitten seems to be having some trouble breathing today. Gave it a tiny shot of penicillin and some IV fluids. Please keep this innocent baby in your prayers.

So Mittens has no milk at this moment. It's hard to tell if the kitten will stimulate her to produce again or not. Either way, the kitten just drank from the bottle like it hadn't seen food in days. I know the lady who had this kitten did try and feed it everytime it cried. It took me gently putting the kittens head between my thumb and pointer finger to get it to actually suckle on the bottle. Once it had that down, I placed the kitten and the bottle next to Mittens (pictured). She is trying very hard to take care of this little one. I might just have to help her some.

This is Mittens. All of her kittens died. It seems as though she has taken this little one in though. We pray this works but if it doesn't, we are prepared to bottle feed the kitten. So far she has given it a full bath and allowed it to try and nurse. This kitten still has its umbilical cord attached, it is dried but still attached.

Might have hit the jackpot. I might have a cat that will be this little ones surrogate mother. So far it's looking good!

Got an emergency call from someone who had originally found 3 newborn kittens. They left them overnight and 2 of them died. I was called to see if I could save the last one. Pictures coming soon.
