🐴 BARN HELPER / WORKING STUDENT OPPORTUNITY 🐴

I’m looking for ONE reliable person to help with a weekly barn-care shift in exchange for a FREE weekly lesson, with the potential for this to grow into more of a working student position with free lessons and ride time.

You do not have to currently be a student of mine, but you MUST have real, hands-on horse experience. I’m looking for someone who is already comfortable catching, haltering, leading, feeding, turning horses out/in, cleaning stalls, and generally handling horses safely without needing someone standing next to them explaining every step.

I’ve had a few people interested in this type of arrangement who unfortunately didn’t have enough horse experience to safely work independently, so being comfortable and competent around horses is a non-negotiable.

The weekly schedule can be flexible and we can figure out what works best. It could look like:
• A Saturday evening barn shift
• A Sunday morning shift
• Coming in later in the morning, doing morning chores, spending some time at the barn, then bringing horses in and doing dinner
• Or another schedule that makes sense for both of us

I’ll handle feed prep, and we’ll establish exactly what needs to be done during your shift.

What I’m looking for:
• Solid horse-handling experience
• Reliable transportation
• Dependable and consistent
• Comfortable working independently
• Good judgment and attention to detail
• Able to follow established barn routines and safety procedures
• Willing to communicate if something comes up or you’re unable to make your shift
• Someone who genuinely enjoys being around horses and wants to learn

In exchange, you’ll receive one free lesson per week.

For the right person, I’d also be open to developing this into a working student arrangement, where additional barn help could be exchanged for additional lessons and/or ride time as we build trust and determine what works for both of us.

I’m much more interested in finding someone reliable, capable, and willing to learn than someone who simply wants free riding.

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, send me a message with your horse experience, availability, and what you’re looking for!

📢 A quick update from DC Horsemanship & Training!

We want to sincerely apologize to anyone who has reached out to us over the past several days and hasn’t received a response. Unfortunately, we were randomly locked out of our page and have been working to get access restored.

We are finally working on getting everything back up and running, and we’re going through messages as quickly as we can. If you’ve reached out recently and haven’t heard back, please know we haven’t been ignoring you! ❤️

Thank you so much for your patience and understanding while we work through this. We truly appreciate everyone who supports our small business! 🐴🤎

🍂 Winter Lessons at DC Horsemanship & Training 🐴

It’s been a little quiet over here since the Lincoln County Fair, but we’re getting ready for another season of riding, learning, and horsemanship! 🤎

As we head into fall and winter, we are offering one-hour after-school lessons Monday–Friday at 3:00, 4:00, and 5:00 PM. Lessons are available for riders of various ages and experience levels.

🐴 Several horses are currently available for lease for riders looking for more consistency and experience outside of weekly lessons.

🚗 Traveling lessons are also available! A fuel fee applies for traveling lessons.

📚 And lessons aren’t always about riding!

Winter weather doesn’t always cooperate, but that doesn’t mean we have to cancel a day of learning. On days when riding isn’t safe or practical, we can turn our lesson time into a hands-on horsemanship mini session!

Some topics we can cover include:
• Equine anatomy & how the horse’s body works
• Understanding the horse’s foot and basic hoof care
• Saddles & proper saddle fit
• Bridles, bits & proper bridle fit
• Learning how and when to wrap legs
• Basic equine first aid & medical care
• Grooming, handling & safe horse management
• And plenty more!

These sessions are a great way for riders to build knowledge and confidence on the ground as well as in the saddle. There is so much more to being a good horseman than simply knowing how to ride. 🐎

❄️ As always, winter lessons are weather dependent. Last-minute cancellations or rescheduling from either party should be expected when conditions become unsafe. Snow, ice, wind, extreme temperatures, poor road conditions, or unsafe footing may all mean we need to adjust our plans. The safety of our horses and riders always comes first!

Whether you’re looking to get back in the saddle, keep riding through the winter, learn more about horses, or give your child the opportunity to develop strong horsemanship skills, we’d love to have you join us this season!

🐴 BIG NEWS FROM DC HORSEMANSHIP & TRAINING! 🐴

I’m incredibly excited to announce that DC Horsemanship & Training is starting a new 4-H club — Wranglers and Riders! 🎉

Wranglers and Riders will be a horse-focused 4-H club through Lincoln County WSU Extension, giving local youth the opportunity to learn about horses, horsemanship, responsibility, leadership, and so much more — both in and out of the saddle.

We’re currently working through the final steps with Extension to get everything officially set up, and then we’ll be ready to start getting members enrolled and planning our first meetings!

My goal is to create a fun, supportive environment where kids can build confidence, develop real horsemanship skills, learn responsibility, and make memories with their horses and fellow 4-H members. ❤️🐎

I’m so excited to see where this takes us, and I can’t wait to welcome our first Wranglers and Riders!

More information about enrollment, meetings, projects, and how to get involved will be coming soon!

An Update from DC Horsemanship & Training

Unfortunately, the property we were in the process of purchasing has fallen through. While this isn’t the outcome we were hoping for, we’re trusting that the right opportunity is still ahead.

For the time being, DC Horsemanship & Training will continue operating out of our current location, and all lessons, training, and services will continue as scheduled.

I truly appreciate everyone’s patience, support, and encouragement throughout this process. I’ll be sure to share any future updates as they come. Thank you all for being part of the DC Horsemanship & Training family! ❤️🐴

🐴 DC Horsemanship & Training Update! 🐴

I’m incredibly excited to announce that DC Horsemanship & Training will be moving to our very own facility beginning September 1st! 🎉

This is a huge step for the program, and I’m so excited for what this next chapter will bring for both my horses and my students. Having our own space will allow us to continue growing and creating an environment that is truly our own.

With school starting back up and the move happening at the same time, we will also need to make some adjustments to our lesson schedule and available lesson times. I’ll be working on a new schedule that allows me to balance school, the horses, and the program while still giving my students the time and attention they deserve.

Because moving horses and getting an entirely new facility settled is a big transition, DC Horsemanship & Training will be taking a temporary break from lessons during the move. I want to give myself and the horses time to settle in, establish new routines, and make sure everyone is comfortable before jumping right back into lessons.

I appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this transition! ❤️ I’m so incredibly excited to take this next step with DC Horsemanship & Training, and I can’t wait to welcome everyone to our new home!

More details on the updated lesson schedule and our return date will be coming soon. 🐴✨

Thank you all for continuing to support DC Horsemanship & Training — this next chapter is going to be a good one!

📢 Lesson Update 📢 NO LESSONS UNTIL JULY 30TH!!!

Due to the continued heat and the amount of preparation needed for our Dusk Till Dawn Movie Night, lessons will be canceled for the remainder of this week.

We want to make sure everyone stays safe and comfortable in these temperatures while also allowing us the time needed to get everything ready for a fun and successful event. As well as I’ll be out of town Sunday through Wednesday for a work trip

Regular lessons will resume as scheduled on Thursday July 30th. Thank you all for your understanding, and we appreciate your flexibility!

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and we’ll see everyone soon! ☀️🐴

The part of horse ownership people don’t always see… 🐴

When the weather is miserable, the smoke is heavy, the heat is intense, or we’re tired after a long day — the horses still need us.

They don’t know it’s our day off. They don’t know we’re tired. They don’t know the conditions aren’t convenient. They rely on us to show up for them every single day.

Horse ownership isn’t just the rides, the shows, the pictures, and the fun moments. It’s early mornings, late nights, feeding, cleaning, hauling water, managing their health, making difficult decisions, and putting their needs before our own.

And for those who don’t personally do every part of their horse’s care — take a moment to thank the people who do. The trainers, barn managers, working students, family members, and caretakers who are there behind the scenes making sure your horse is safe, fed, comfortable, and cared for.

If you have the opportunity to help the people who help care for your horse, take it. Clean a stall. Carry a bucket. Sweep an aisle. Show up when you say you will. Learn the parts of horse ownership that happen outside of the saddle.

Because horsemanship isn’t just about riding a horse — it’s about respecting the responsibility that comes with them.

These animals give us their trust, patience, and partnership. The least we can do is honor that commitment every day. ❤️🐴
