Stop your dog from jumping on people by teaching them what to do instead of only correcting what not to do. 🐢

In this training session, you'll see three simple techniques we use with young dogs:

βœ” Remove the reward for jumping by turning away.
βœ” Redirect excitement into an appropriate behavior.
βœ” Recall your dog before they have the chance to jump, then reward the right choice.

Consistency, timing, and clear communication are the keys to creating polite greetings that last a lifetime.

Every dog is different, but with the right training plan, even the most enthusiastic greeter can learn to stay calm around family, friends, and guests.

What behavior is your dog struggling with most? Let me know in the comments!

Three dogs. Three methods. One goal. 🐾
Loose leash walking is one of the most common things people struggle with β€” and there's no single right answer. It depends on the dog.
Here's what works:
πŸ”„ Change directions β€” with Fen the GSD puppy
βœ‹ Stop and sit β€” with Millie the Lab
πŸ– Lure β€” with Romulus the Beauceron
Try all three. Find your dog's language.
If you're in Kansas City and leash walking is a daily battle, this is where you start. Link in bio.

Real life is the best distraction. πŸ‘ΆπŸΎ
Fen is on the climb, holding her duration stay while my kids do their thing in the background. No sterile training environment here β€” just life at full volume and a GSD puppy figuring out that the cue means the same thing no matter what's happening around her.
We're also at the point where we start phasing out the hand signal. The verbal cue starts carrying the behavior on its own. That's a big milestone in any dog's training and Fen is right on schedule.
Progress is loud around here. πŸ˜„

Fen is out here living her best life. 🌿
Recall work on a gorgeous green field. A trip through Home Depot. And then this photo β€” one ear up, one ear down, next to some flowers, completely unbothered.
This is what board and train looks like at Chris's Canine Training in Kansas City. We're not just teaching commands β€” we're building a dog Kayla can take anywhere.
She's got a long way to go and she's already so good. 🐾

The two ball drill isn't just a game. 🎾
It's how you fix possession. It's how you build drive. And honestly β€” it's how you start building a real relationship with your dog.
Here's Fen working through it on day two of her board and train. Not perfect. Not supposed to be. We're weaving in some obedience, learning to trade, learning to engage. Progress over perfection.
And then Romulus shows up at the end just to remind everyone what this journey can build toward. πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί
That's the goal. That's always the goal.

Meet Fen. 🐾
She's a young German Shepherd here for board and train at Chris's Canine Training in Kansas City β€” and this is day one.
What you're watching is marker training. I'm using a touch pad to teach her where to be, building a down stay from the very beginning. Every rep is a conversation β€” she offers the behavior, I mark it, she gets rewarded. That's how trust gets built.
GSD puppies are wired to work. Give them clarity and they'll give you everything.
Follow along for Fen's full journey. πŸ‘‡

She showed up with those big ears already asking questions.
This is Fen β€” a young German Shepherd girl here for board and train, and honestly, she's already reminding me why I love this work.
From day one we're building something real. Luring and marker training so she understands how to learn. Positions so she has structure to hold onto. Impulse control so all that Shepherd energy has somewhere to go. Confidence work and socialization because a dog that trusts the world is a dog that can actually live in it.
GSDs are wired to work. They want a job, they want clarity, and they want to know someone's got the wheel. That's what we're here for.
More from Fen's journey coming soon. 🐾
