These dogs started at zero. Some had never chased a toy.
I compete in disc dog. I teach it the same way I train for it.

Callie is a Rottweiler who can get a little too interested in other dogs.

Here we're working on one of the most important skills in reactivity training: learning to disengage.

When Callie fixates on another dog, I give her the verbal “Off” and use the e-collar as a communication tool—not a punishment. The moment she breaks her focus and checks back in with me, I reward her.

The goal isn't to make her afraid of other dogs. It's to teach her that she can notice them, listen to her handler, and make a different choice.

This is real-world reactivity work in Overland Park, Kansas.

Stop your dog from jumping on people by teaching them what to do instead of only correcting what not to do. 🐶

In this training session, you'll see three simple techniques we use with young dogs:

✔ Remove the reward for jumping by turning away.
✔ Redirect excitement into an appropriate behavior.
✔ Recall your dog before they have the chance to jump, then reward the right choice.

Consistency, timing, and clear communication are the keys to creating polite greetings that last a lifetime.

Every dog is different, but with the right training plan, even the most enthusiastic greeter can learn to stay calm around family, friends, and guests.

Real life is the best distraction. 👶🐾
Fen is on the climb, holding her duration stay while my kids do their thing in the background. No sterile training environment here — just life at full volume and a GSD puppy figuring out that the cue means the same thing no matter what's happening around her.
We're also at the point where we start phasing out the hand signal. The verbal cue starts carrying the behavior on its own. That's a big milestone in any dog's training and Fen is right on schedule.
Progress is loud around here. 😄
