House Goat Haven House Goat Haven is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming goats and disabled cats.

The primary purpose and objectives of House Goat Haven is to rescue, rehabilitate, care for and locate “forever homes” for abused and neglected goats as well as other domestic and barnyard animals. Heart warming story below!!

So last week Lyle was at church for a men’s breakfast and a young boy walked up & handed him a wad of cash & said
“I’ve been mowing laws this week & I wanted to donate my money to your goat rescue” and handed Lyle $47!

So last week we had our grain order paid for!!

Honesty knowing that there are some young humans that know the value of giving back makes my heart so happy!! There are good people all around us…. People who watch the negative stuff posted about us & support us EVEN WHEN THEY see the nasty words people say about myself (Jean) and the harsh words about our disable crew and people talking about how to poison Goats with antifreeze! The people who actually take the time to get to know us and the rescue and meet the wonderful critters know the truth!

I never thought I would own a Great Dane! But in 2017 I was contacted to take a puppy cause the owner bought him without permission & was being evicted!

So I of course ran an grabbed him! He was a monster puppy! Took months to kennel train without screaming for hours! Lucky Shasta was his mentor and she was 3 when we got Harli so she was a good trainer. We also had Mousearoo (he was a wiener dog pitbull cross) and he was the boss of the house and he kept everyone in line!!

Harley’s been one of the best farm dogs we’ve ever had! He’s was an emotional support animal for my son, more in his younger days since transitioning back to the USA from Germany was very difficult for us!!

Harley has raised so many house goats with me! Loves TINY kittens!! Like LOVES THEM! Has helped Lyle after his stroke as a up & down & steady a human helper! He’s a wonderful hiking buddy for unstable humans like me! He will wait & walk you & make sure you don’t fall down!

Harli is going to be 10 in May 2027! He’s an old old man in the Dane world. He’s retired as a guardian & no longer alerts for hawks or eagles. BUT the geese have taken over that roll for now.

He’s the worst counter surfer EVER & can swipe a stick of butter as you turn to get a knife! The garage cab is a huge food dish as far as he’s concerned & he can open canned dog & cat food like it’s nothing!!

He is our best boy! A pain in the Ass! Gives the BEST LOVES ever! And he gonna be one of the hardest ones to say good by too when his time comes! But for now he gets quality, dog food, joint supplements, tummy powder, and I think he’s still been sneaking quite a bit of Goat food when I’m not looking! Lol

This is huge. HUEY KIND OF RAN!

I will say he is down most of the day when he is outside. He lays in the piles of hay that I rake up & eats the good hay. I would say he’s up & active 20% of the day now. He prefers to lay in my bed or on his blanket pile by Bailey (LGDs) house kennel.

I know he’s going to need his chair cause when he’s full grown he will be a tall goat & bigger than a Nigerian dwarf and the weight will be a lot of his long back leg

Tomorrow the amazing goat auntie Michelle Nickolaus will be here to help us & get hooves trimmed & give loves to all the goats! She will see Huey’s leg for the first time in person. And of course she will see her little Xena & get cuddles

This incident has taken an emotional toll on me for sure. I feel for these animals as if I am injured! They feel pain & experience emotions & have the ability to bond deeply with their humans! I have proven that with many of our rescues & personal goats. They come to me when they are hurt or want something.

Of course there are times when we know we can’t or shouldn’t save an animal. And those are hard decision to make. US Rescues make those decisions over and over and over everyday! It’s the hardest part of rescue! The worst part, the part that makes you feel guilt & anger & sadness that’s unbearable some days!

Goats are some of the most resilient animals I have even worked with! BUT also some of the hardest to diagnose, save & treat! It’s a gift I have that I am grateful for everyday & I’m not sure how I was blessed with this gift but it’s been very healing for me & has helped provide 5 years of sobriety from alcohol!

Of course I don’t do this alone! We have a great team at the farm! Lyle is great about always running to get a load of hay or grain or a bottle of meds I need RIGHT NOW! He also always seem to wrangle up funds for these emergencies that we have!

We have grown this year! We definitely feel the financial burden growing BUT we also have saved some amazing animals, blessed MANY family’s with perfect goat companions, adopted a few cats, have paid the vet almost 10k as of today & we have some of the most wonderful followers, fosters, volunteers, corp donors, and race family who has really taken to Xena & the goats this year!

Thank you again to everyone who has helped with Huey’s medical bill, aftercare needs, support & kind words!

Post Op Day 5
Patch is off! He’s in pain but he isn’t screaming. I can tell his leg is very tired. He’s on goat Tylenol every other day.

He lays down to eat now BUT he is able to use the stairs onto my bed & jump down.

He’s been so good about p*eing on his mats OR his bed! Yes goats p*e where they sleep 🤦🏼‍♀️.

I still don’t let him out alone! Going to make him a space on the porch this week so he can spend time outside safely with out my 👀 on him!

Day 3 post op

He’s so high he’s silly! Rolls around then passes out in his bucket. He lays down to eat now. He’s def not as active as he was before BUT he’s still a cuddle bug & demands love.

I was gone all day today so tomorrow I’ll set up his chair and we will get started. They take a bit of time for me to put together with my hand issues.

So far he’s doing well. He’s staying in the house unless he’s 100% supervised only because we don’t want anyone to head but him or open up his stitches.

He was up most of the night. Up, down, up, down, scream…. Grinding teeth & head down 😞

He finally ate & we went to bed at 4am.

The picture of him standing he was actually asleep, when goats are in pain, they usually stand up and find a place to push their head against or stand facing a corner

I’m so mad because this injury didn’t have to be this bad! It didn’t have to be this serious! It didn’t have to cost $2000!! I have permission to remove his stitches so avoid another $200 appt & trip in the car

BUT at least he was under my care & we have the best vet EVER! Cascade West Veterinary we appreciate you more than you will ever know & Dr Stevens has fixed up both of my favorite broken boys.

Cedric the crooked leg cat goes in Wed & we hopefully have enough to cover his appt & X-rays.
