The Toaster Strudel was only entered in 1 show today at the ASCMI show, and went BOS for another major towards SCCHE and some more finals points. We haven’t shown since November so only hanging onto intact top 30 by threads, but this should help! I was going to put her away in ASCA after this weekend and just do AKC, but now I think I may reconsider that notion 🤔🤣

The Winds are 3 weeks old tomorrow! A few are still on the smaller side getting spoiled with bottles occasionally, but I started everyone on gruel with goat milk last night and they were all fans (although the really struggled with the concept of eating out of a bowl at first; LOL). Should be steadily uphill from here on out!
They are walking, talking, starting to play in slow motion, and some of them are already really seeking me out for cuddles now.

I have some room on the waitlist for some girls and maybe 1 boy yet. Feel free to reach out to chat :)

Well…hello there 👁️ 👁️

Lips has the first peepers open! Everyone is trending the right way and gaining (some more than others…cough cough Lips, Eurus etc gaining 3+oz/day!). The three smallest (Phoenecias, Zephyrus, Thrascias) I’m still supplementing about twice per day to keep them on the path to catching up to fatty status, but I’m feeling pretty confident everyone is in the clear now! ❤️
North’s incision looks great, and other than a minor tummy upset yesterday because I probably got a little overzealous with offering the beef organs lol she’s also doing spectacularly!

At this point, since everyone is doing well I’m willing to open up the wait list for a few interested parties with the litter being large. Mostly will be girls up for grabs as there are so many, but have room for maybe 1 more boy. Guardian & show, maybe companion/general farm guardian on a case by case basis as Norths and Mandos temperaments are SO wonderful and discerning 🥰 I’ve been getting a ton of interest in them but haven’t really been pushing for any commitments yet, so if you think you want something, let me know asap. This will likely be North’s only litter, as she’s over 5yrs now and I really want to get her back in condition to see if we can snag that last AKC Major to finish. Too bad I can’t turn in all the barely-broken winners and major reserves for it, LOL

All but one gained solidly since yesterday (Boreas) and I’m not overly concerned at this time; he’ll get tubed a few times today. Phoenecias (pink collar) gained almost an ounce, so I think she is out of the woods! I will wait a couple more days to start ENS, as I don’t think deliberately adding mild stressors is a great idea right now, LOL. Looking forward to getting to know these long-awaited little Winds and watch them grow in the next few months! 🌬️ ❤️

Everyone had an uneventful night. A few pups rebounded and are now gaining, a few more are still losing some ground. Mainly worried about the little girl with the light pink collar. I think otherwise everybody’s pretty stable, so she’s the only one I’m kind of on red alert with right now. She’s still very hungry; we will keep working at her!

We had a casualty this morning - one of the boys went downhill faster than I could do anything for him. It was a bitter loss.

Everyone has collars for more rapid identification since there are just so many of them. We got updated weight and started tube feeding those that need it. They’re getting chilled easily so I have the office turned into an easy bake oven for them.

North is doing amazing. She has already shown absolutely wonderful maternal behavior, and she’s very caring and thoughtful. She had identified that the boy we lost was going downhill before I caught it after I played back the cameras and saw how much she was attending to him and keeping him close by nudging him to her side. She knew, and instead of pushing him away she brought him close. 🥺

The good news: we have 12 vibrant puppies, 8 girls/4 boys, and North is exhausted but recovering well!

The bad news: We lost 2…One had been gone a day or so already and was DOA. The other was a casualty that I couldn’t get out of the canal and resulted in a C-section :(

We made it through #11 on our own using every method possible, but after fighting tooth and nail to get the last few puppies out we hit the point where we could go no further. I absolutely could not get #12 into the canal; I could just barely feel the tips of rear toes as far back as I could reach. North was just too tired to give me anymore as we’d been delivering puppies for about 20hrs by this point. At 4:30am I could see 2 more via ultrasound besides the one that I was working on whose hearts were still beating, and at that moment I threw in the towel knowing I couldn’t make any further progress on my own.

Tremendous thank you to Escanaba Veterinary Clinic for coming to the rescue for mama North and her last 2 littles!

I’m not sure how I’m still awake as I’ve been up for about 35 hours now…so on that note it will likely be a few days before I get everyone settled and myself rested. Stay tuned, and thanks for the support everyone!!

Morning and evening romps, when the kennel runs are mostly shaded and the sunlight is weakest - my attempt at keeping the red dogs as red as possible for the upcoming show season 😆
(Also, getting more frequent baths and dousing them in leave-in conditioner that has UV protection in it helps…)

We are incredibly proud to announce that Echolight has completed the requirements today, pending ASCA verification, for -

HALL OF FAME KENNEL!!!

While the first litter under the Echolight banner was born in 2016, we weren’t able to start accruing towards it until our early 2020 litter. The fact we managed to achieve such a tremendous honor so quickly is a testament to not only the strength of this program, but the hard work and dedication of each of the folks who raised/trained/competed with their Echolight kids. On to the next goal! I have no doubt we will get there.
