Inquiring minds must knowâŠ?!?đ€đŸ
A couple days ago, while staring at my last case sleeping, I posed a question. Was it mind-boggling? Not really. But curiosity may have bloomed, right?
Megaesophagus â an interesting disorder, medically described as dilation of the esophagus. Even more simply⊠yep, the esophagus becomes enlarged. HOWEVER, this disorder can be far from simple and can be a trying situation for pet and owner alike.
A true prevalence in the U.S. is difficult to know, but megaesophagus is considered relatively uncommon. When it does occur, it can be congenital or acquired (adult-onset), with one of the most common signs leading to diagnosis being regurgitation.
Why may I be sharing this, you ask?
It is NOT to have you running to your veterinarian or suddenly wondering if your pet has megaesophagus. đ It is actually just something rather interesting that exists in veterinary medicineâand a reminder of a simple reality:
Odd things happen. Life happens.
Your veterinary team diagnoses the problem and begins the treatment plan. Then you go homeâŠand sometimes you just need an extra hand to support you and your pet through that next phase. đđŸ
