🥵🐾 Summer heat has found us and it's already STEAMY here in the Triangle. While we humans can throw on sandals and sunblock and head outside, our dogs don't have that luxury.

Hot pavement can burn sensitive paw pads in seconds, even when the air temperature doesn't seem extreme. In fact, asphalt can be **40–65 degrees hotter than the surrounding air**, creating dangerous conditions for our four-legged friends.

Before heading out, remember the **7-second rule**:
✋ Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds.
🔥 If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your hound!

A few other hot-weather safety tips:
☀️ Avoid walks during the hottest part of the day.
🌱 Stick to grassy areas whenever possible.
🌅 Opt for early morning or evening walks.
💧 Bring plenty of water and watch for signs of overheating.
🐾 Consider dog booties if your pup will be spending time on hot surfaces.

Heat exhaustion and burned paw pads can happen quickly, so a little extra caution goes a long way. Stay safe, stay cool, and give your pups some extra indoor enrichment while we wait for cooler temperatures!
