Caspar has already been through so much. Please help us give him the healthy future he deserves.
At 6 years old, Caspar lost his family due to hardship. He then endured a difficult stay at the humane society, where the stress took a toll on him, before Ruff Start Rescue stepped in at the last possible moment.
Finally, Caspar had a safe place to land. With the help of his foster family, this sweet, floofy Shepherd has doubled his weight and returned to a healthy size. He’s become the star of the household, showing off his smarts by sitting and lying down for treats without even being asked. He’s a polite boy who loves his people and even keeps an eye on his foster brothers to make sure they’re following the rules.
But Caspar still has a medical concern that can’t wait.
He has a lump near his neck involving a salivary gland that needs to be removed by a specialist. While it isn’t considered an immediate life-threatening concern, it could grow, rupture, or become infected without treatment. There’s also a risk that it could affect his ability to breathe or swallow, and it seems to be bothering the ear on that side, even though his ear looks normal. His veterinarian recommends removing it as soon as possible to help prevent serious complications.
Caspar is still healing from the trauma of his past and can struggle with new people. Finding an adoptive home is already harder for a dog who needs patience and understanding. The added uncertainty of a medical emergency makes things even more complicated. He deserves the chance to keep healing without this hanging over him.
His specialty surgery is scheduled for next week, and the cost is $1,545.79.
