Adoption Review & Approval Policy

Pawsitively Purrfect Retreat is committed to placing cats into safe, loving, and permanent homes throughout Northern New York. Service Area

We currently adopt within Northern New York, including St. Lawre

nce, Franklin, Jefferson, Lewis, and neighboring counties. Adoptions outside this area may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Our Adoption Philosophy

Our responsibility is first and foremost to the health, safety, and long-term welfare of our cats. Applications are evaluated based on the best match between the cat and the prospective adopter. Adoptions are not approved on a first-come, first-served basis. Submission of completed application.
2. Verification of veterinary and personal references.
4. Verification of landlord approval if applicable.
5. Review of resident pet compatibility.
6. Meet-and-greet.
7. Final adoption determination. Approval Considerations

Applications may be approved based on:

• Stable housing arrangements
• Responsible pet ownership history
• Demonstrated veterinary care for current pets
• Appropriate vaccination status
• Appropriate spay/neuter status
• Safe introduction plans
• Financial preparedness
• Compatibility between resident animals and the adopted cat

Veterinary Care Expectations

Current pets should:

• Receive routine veterinary care
• Be current on veterinarian-recommended vaccinations
• Be spayed or neutered unless medically exempt or otherwise approved by the rescue

Failure to provide veterinary references or authorize release of veterinary information may result in denial. Reasons an Application May Be Denied

Applications may be denied if:

• Information is false or misleading
• Veterinary records cannot be verified
• Current pets have not received routine veterinary care
• Current pets remain unvaccinated without veterinary guidance
• Current pets remain unaltered without a reasonable explanation or documented exemption
• The applicant demonstrates an inability or unwillingness to provide basic veterinary care
• Landlord approval cannot be verified
• Resident pets present a safety concern
• The household environment is unsuitable for the specific cat
• The applicant intends for the cat to live primarily outdoors
• The rescue determines placement would not be in the best interest of the cat

Each application is reviewed individually, and extenuating circumstances may be considered. Return Policy

If an adopter is unable to care for an adopted cat at any point during its life, the adopter must contact Pawsitively Purrfect Retreat before surrendering, rehoming, or transferring ownership. Right to Refuse Adoption

Pawsitively Purrfect Retreat reserves the right to approve or deny any application based on what is determined to be in the best interest of the cat. Submission of an application does not guarantee adoption of any specific animal. These steps ensure our cats are healthy and ready for their forever homes. Our Commitment

We rescue cats with the promise that they will always have a safe place to return if needed. Our policies are designed to protect the cats in our care and ensure every adoption is successful and lasting. Pawsitively Purrfect Retreat is dedicated to rescuing stray, feral, and surrendered cats, providing them with the medical care and love they need to thrive. We ensure all rescues receive the necessary vaccinations, feline leukemia testing, flea treatments, spay/neuter surgery, and nail trims before they find their forever homes. Our retreat offers a compassionate and enriching environment where cats can play, socialize, and learn to trust and be loved. Thank you to 11 West for another bottle donation yesterday bringing in $29.64 and to the people who have used our new drop off storage for bottles, we took those back today and collected $13.92. 🚨In a matter of 8 days.🚨

Let me say that again.

8 DAYS.

Our wait list has grown from 53 cats to 162 cats. 😿

That is 109 additional cats needing help in just over one week.

At this point, I am genuinely not sure what other statistics our communities, leaders, donors, and funders need to see. 💔

Rescues and shelters throughout our area are closed or severely restricted for cat intake because of overpopulation and lack of space. 🐾🏠 Everyone is full. Everyone is overwhelmed. And the calls for help have not stopped. 📞

Our isolation space is already committed for approximately the next 8 weeks while the kittens currently in our care grow old enough to safely transition into the adult cat population. 🐱🍼 Even then, we do not know exactly how that transition will go.

Yes, our in-home rescue model is working. ❤️

But it is very clearly no longer enough.

🐾 We need people to adopt.
💵 We need donors to step forward.
🤝 We need businesses, foundations, community partners, and investors who believe that something has to change.
❤️ We need people who care about these animals and about the communities being forced to shoulder an increasingly impossible burden.

Because this is no longer just a rescue problem.

🚨 This is becoming a regional crisis. 🚨

There is nothing that breaks my heart more than answering someone who is desperate for help and having to tell them that we simply do not have anywhere to put another cat. 💔😿

But there HAS to be a way forward.

And we are determined to find it. 💪🐾

We have gone to our local municipalities and will soon be hosting a public forum to officially launch our capital campaign and talk openly about what is happening, what our region needs, and what it will take to create the capacity necessary to respond. 🏠📣

We need backing. 🤝

We need our community beside us. ❤️

And we need people willing to help turn a desperate situation into a real solution. 🌟

This is not about us.

It is about them. 🐱❤️

🐾 The cats waiting.
🐾 The kittens being born.
🐾 The families begging for help.
🐾 The caregivers and rescuers already stretched beyond capacity.
🐾 And the animals who may have nowhere else to go as the winter months approach. ❄️

We cannot build this alone.

But together, we can build something that changes animal rescue in our region for years to come. 🏡🐾❤️

📚✏️ WELCOME BACK, STUDENTS!! 🎒🍎

Whether you’re heading back to elementary school, middle school, high school, or college, we hope your school year is filled with success, new friendships, great memories, and maybe just a little less homework than expected! 😹

And to all of the college students returning to the North Country — WELCOME BACK! 💙 We’re so happy to have you back in the area!

The rescue cats, however, have mixed feelings about this whole “back to school” thing… 👀🐱

Apparently they’re a little jealous that everyone else gets new backpacks, school supplies, clubs, sporting events, and field trips while their daily schedule still consists of:

😴 Nap
🍽️ Snack
😴 Nap again
🐾 Cause unnecessary chaos
🍽️ Second snack
😴 Recover from their exhausting day

Life is hard. 😂
