Please be aware the park will be closed this Thursday morning until 11am so the carpenter bee situation can be addressed. There will be members of the committee on duty to stop people from entering during this time.

What a day!!! TONS of work was done on Saturday morning at the Spring Clean-Up!!! We had a fantastic crew of Marines...and local volunteers who pulled weeds, mulched, painted, shoveled and planted for 4 hours!!!! We can't thank you all enough for getting the park in great shape for the coming season.

All are welcome…including dogs! Please wear long pants tucked into socks to protect against ticks. Bring wheel barrows/garden carts and rakes if available and mark them with your name so they get back to the right people.

The Dog Park was a place that MJ truly loved.

She loved spending time there with her pups, Lucy and Rosie, and all her family and friends. It was more than just a special place for her. In Nicole’s words, it was peace, joy, and a sense of normalcy for MJ when so much of her life was anything but.

She would apparently often tell her doctors that she only wanted two things in life—to be able to read, and to go to the dog park.

In lieu of flowers, her family has asked people to donate to the Portsmouth Dog Park so we can install a memorial bench in her honor that will enable other people to feel the same sense of peace and joy that MJ did. It would mean the world to MJ's family and friends.

HUGE THANKS TO PORTSMOUTH DPW

The Town of Portsmouth DPW was kind enough to plow our parking lot. Also, thank you SO much to whoever was kind enough to shovel out the large dog side gate and create a path through the woods. A challenging hike, it is well worth the peace, quiet and beauty it gives humans...and the fun it provides for the dogs!

“with apologies! Unfortunately, the town of Portsmouth does not plow our parking area, so it only becomes accessible when people manage to drive into the lot and press down the snow. If you manage to get in, you might also need a shovel to access the gates!”

Please be careful out there.

So much thanks to Jen, Tyler, Adam, Jane, Patricia and Barbara who jumped in to help me this morning (Saturday, November 8). I went in the rain to remove the temporary fencing around the newly filled and seeded sinkhole. A dog had sustained injury on it so it needed to go. It was so wet that I figured no one else would be there but I was wrong. Before I even walked through the gate with the garden cart, Jen came over to offer assistance. She called to the other 5 and what would have taken me about 2 hours, took all of us less than 30 minutes! THANK YOU Jen, Tyler, Adam, Jane, Patricia and Barbara for the help and even more for the community spirit it demonstrated. The six of you are the reason why every day at the PDP brings joy!!! Thanks also to the unsung daily heroes (Charlie and Fred and Bunny and Richard Nassau...and so many more) who fill holes that the dogs dig, pull invasive weeds, refill dog p**p bags on the trail, empty the trash...we literally cannot do it alone, but together we can achieve anything!
