Carly update: she has been with us for 2 weeks now and seems to be pretty happy. She’s enjoying tasty new foods (fresh and raw selections), gentle massages, tons of cuddles, and romps with her new pack. She doesn’t move well and it’s evident when she has over-exerted herself but she never complains. I’m testing 2 kinds of non-slip socks for traction in the house (thanks Erin for the suggestion!) and she’s getting familiar with the lift harness.

There are times when I suspect Carly can’t feel when she needs to go outside and she therefore has a lot of accidents in the house. It’s frustrating but understandable, another obvious sign of something wrong. Test results are expected back next week, at which point we will develop a plan. Meanwhile, she has a good routine and a loving family to see her through.

Cruise went missing yesterday. Panicked and worried, I walked down the trail at the end of our yard where I spotted him casually watching me from his nest in the ivy. Do poodles scare us to death on purpose?

In other happy news, Cruise passed his basic cardiac test and the report has been sent to OFA. Feels good to get that done. His CHIC number will be issued in the next week or two and I’ll update the website.

Reno recap

We didn’t bring home any points but had a great time. Buster was Best Bred By Exhibitor standard poodle and then 1st in the Non-Sporting Group. That was a long and exciting day. Best In Show went to a golden retriever.

I always feel guilty when the boys spend a lot of time in crates or on the grooming table during show weekends so they were treated to a fun romp at Eagle Lake on the way home. You can see the water level was quite low and the resort area resembled a ghost town, allowing them to have a good run and explore a bit before the long ride home. I was surprised by how eagerly they jumped back into the over-packed car (I had gone thrifting with show friends and won several raffle items) but they settled in and made the most of what space they had. They’re the best road-trippers!

Reno Kennel Club generously distributes $500 scholarships for each Best Junior In Show, funded largely by raffle ticket purchases. I’m always happy to support junior handlers and there were nice items in the raffle. We got tons of toys, a new poodle pool, and also a gallon of shampoo among other things.

We’re in Reno!

I’ll do a show recap in another post but so far, cuddling with Sinatra has been the highlight of the trip. I love our puppy families and opportunities to visit are always special. 💙

I picked up a foster dog named Carly last week. She’s a five year-old Standard Poodle with a suspected degenerative disease. She will get as much fresh air and exercise as she can manage and I plan to document her medical journey, however long or short it may be. The pack joyfully welcomed her in.

Welcome to LCK, sweet girl. 🩵

I can’t express how excited I was to see this set in the poodle club raffle and that I got to bring it home at the end of the evening. I’ve already been planning to have fun coloring Yeager and Reagan again but the rainbow of possibilities is suddenly infinite! What designs would you like to see next?

I’ve lost track of how many times people have approached to say they’ve never seen brown Standard Poodles before. Even more have said they didn’t know we could show in AKC. When I was in the ring with Buster this weekend, I heard his dad‘s name spoken outside the ring and I smiled to myself. We’re building a brown dog legacy here!

Blazing Yeager seems to be a bit of a living legend and is truly my dream dog (I cant believe he’s mine!). I’ll be celebrating him all week in advance of his 6th birthday 8/4, and showing his son at his favorite event, the UKC Western Classic in Longview, WA. If you’re in the area, come say hello and grab a cupcake. Yeager would love to see you! 🤎
