Special Bow Tie Alert!
On Sunday, June 12th 2022, my friend Heather collapsed at their property on the island of Hawaii after struggling with what was believed to be bronchitis for 6 weeks. Her husband Jerald got her to the ER and she was Life Flighted to a Honolulu ICU, two islands away. There they drained fluid from around her heart and put her on oxygen.
In addition to numerous tests, x-rays, etc., she had a couple needle biopsies and then a surgical biopsy that revealed on Thursday, June 23rd, she has Stage 4 angiosarcoma lung and heart cancer. She was moved into the oncology section of the hospital and started chemo that day.
Her doctors are going after this rare and aggressive cancer with aggressive chemotherapy. The hope is that the chemo will shrink the nodules in her lungs and prevent them from growing and spreading. The goal is to get her lungs to a point where she doesn’t need to be on high amounts of oxygen and can travel with a small tank and fly home to Oregon where they will stay with family. This may take anywhere from two weeks to over a month, but until then, Heather can't leave the hospital.
What they need now is to be able to focus on Heather's care.
I have always been inspired by their love for each other, their rescued cats and dogs, and for their Volkswagen passion. Heather is an incredible, kind, and creative human being deserving of so much love and support.
All sales of The Heather Cat Bow Tie will go directly to Heather and Jerald to pay for flights between Hawaii and Oahu, transportation to/from airports, lodging, regular expenses, medical expenses, food, caring for their critters and anything else that comes up so Jerald can stay with Heather in Oahu and focus on caring for her and himself.
