At this moment we have multiple teams in the field responding to strandings reported to our hotline, another team meeting other stranding response organizations to pass off new pup patients coming in for care (one from over 200 miles away!), volunteers arriving at our center with our own sick, inured, and abandoned pups, new admits actively receiving critically needed care, and all of our current pup patients are receiving one of 5 to 6 feeds of the day!
This pup pictured is one of today's new admits, rescued by our team from Harpswell, Maine. We don't know how she became abandoned at less than 1 week old, but she is emaciated, dehydrated, and exhausted. She is settling in after receiving her first round of fluids and other supportive care, sleeping so deeply she didn't even notice when her new roommate, another new admit, joined her pool just now🥹
Thank you to all the people who have been calling our hotline, helping us get out to island strandings, keeping our hotline informed of pups we are monitoring, the donors who ensure we are here for pups, and to the volunteers, interns and staff keeping all of this work going!
