Meet Clover ☘️

The poor story on this girl 😔

🌀 Hurricane Isias sent her here 🌀

This 3.5 year old petite female (roughly 38 pounds) has been through so much.

Originally a stray found in the Florida Panhandle, she came to the shelter heart worm positive. She underwent treatment and is now negative!

As you all know this last week, the Panhandle was hit with Hurricane Isias. In preparation for the storm, the shelters did everything they could to empty them out for safety of the dogs.

Miss Clover ended up here locally in SWFL in a rural shelter and was such a sweet heart when she greeted us in her kennel. To our surprise, we found out that she has spent the last year and a half of her life in the shelter 😕

We “broke her out” immediately and she spent a day on the town with us. First stop , Tractor Supply. Second stop, grab a bite to eat. Third stop, the river to get some fresh “non shelter” air.

In her first day of being out, we have learned that she is a loving and very well mannered girl. She walks well, rides in the truck well, and loves meeting new people and other animals. It is easy to see she is incredibly thankful to finally be out of the shelter.

All she needs now to wrap her story up with a big bow is a family to call her own 🏡 could you be that family?

🐾😳 WAIT… THIS ISN’T A DOG?! 😳🐾

We’re well known here at Homeward Bound Hounds for rescuing dogs but every now and then, a “not-dog” comes along who needs us.

🐱 MEET OAKEY! 🐱

This beautiful 10 month old calico girl was found as a stray and then was overlooked in a shelter for OVER TWO MONTHS.

Oakey is an affectionate little lovebug who enjoys curling up for snuggles and soaking up the sunshine on a windowsill. ☀️❤️

She’s got the looks, she’s got the personality, and she’s ready to find someone who will finally see just how special she is!

Oakey has waited long enough for someone to choose her. Now she deserves a forever home where she can spend her days snuggling, sunbathing, and being loved the way she deserves.

Meet Winston 🐾

As you can see by his intake pictures, when this boy came to us he was a wreck. He was skinny, covered in mange and wounds and riddled with fleas and ticks.

Winston is now rehabbed, rocking a fresh clean coat of fur and free of them itchy, irritating bugs that certainly weren’t helping his skin issues.

He is 2.5 years old and for a male GSP is on the petite side, weighing 50 pounds.

Winston’s personality is exactly what you’d expect out of a 2.5 year old GSP. He’s very playful and energetic but when it’s time to settle down, loves his snuggle time with his human. He fits the stereotypical “Velcro” GSP. He has done great with all the dogs in our care and loves kids.

The ideal home for Winston would be one who has another GSP for him to spend his days with and a big back yard or property for him to run.

Meet Pongo 🐾

This boy is as big of a lover as he is cute. He loves kids and gets along great with dogs similar in size or bigger than him.

Absolutely NO cats or smaller dogs.

He is a soul dog and will follow you around like your shadow. He is very attentive to his humans. He can read if you’re having a bad day and will be right by your side to console you.

He was listed as 6 from a local shelter but we estimate him to be about 4/5. He is neutered, HW -, and UTD on vaccines.

This 3 year old female Bull Mastiff mix was scheduled to be euthanized and it ALMOST happened. Thankfully she’s now here with us and look at how beautiful she is. Her brindle coat is insane 😍

She is loving, playful, and gets along well with other dogs.

MEET DUKE! This boy has an uncanny resemblance to Scooby Doo and quickly earned the nickname of “Scooby Duke”.

This handsome boy has been waiting WAY too long for his turn. 💔

Scooby Duke spent nearly 6 MONTHS in a rural shelter, and after all that time, he found himself on the euthanasia list. We couldn’t let his story end there so Homeward Bound Hounds stepped in. ❤️

When he arrived, he was incredibly skinny, but this boy is already gaining weight quickly and showing us more of his personality every day! 🥰

At just 1 year old, Scooby Duke is basically a big puppy with a whole lot of love to give. He LOVES to play, has plenty of energy, and would love an active family who will keep him busy. When playtime is over, he is all about attention, affection, and being loved on.

After spending half of his young life waiting in a shelter, Scooby Duke deserves to finally know what it feels like to be someone’s boy. ❤️

We saved him from the list. Now we need someone to help us give him the ending he deserves. 🏡🐾

He gets along great with other dogs and loves kids. We would recommend older kids because he is high energy.

MEET AUGUSTUS, also know as GUS! 🐾

There are some dogs who walk into the rescue and we immediately wonder, “How did you ever end up here?”

Gus is one of those dogs.

This handsome 1 year old German Shorthaired Pointer found himself surrendered to a shelter at less than a year old because his family is having another baby and doesn’t have the time for him 😔

And honestly… after knowing Gus for only a few minutes, we still can’t wrap our heads around it. 💔

Gus is one of the most loving, attentive, gentle, and CALM GSPs we have ever met.

While he was in the shelter, Gus was scared and confused. He couldn’t understand where his family went or why they left him there.

Were they coming back for him?
Did he do something wrong?
Didn’t he do everything right?

He was loving. ❤️
He was gentle. ❤️
He was well behaved. ❤️

He did everything right but suddenly, the comfy bed he was used to laying in was gone. The cold a.c was gone. The kids he was used to loving on were gone.

All he had was a kennel, a shelter environment he didn’t understand, and the heartbreak of wondering why his family never came back. 💔

Now he’s sleeping on a couch again. ❤️
He’s enjoying that glorious cold AC. ❄️
He’s getting the love and attention he so desperately missed.

Gus is truly such a special boy. He’s attentive, affectionate, gentle, calm, and just wants to be close to his people. He’s the kind of dog who will look at you like you’re his entire world.

A HUGE shoutout to Sara McBee for breaking Gus out of the shelter and transporting him to us! We couldn’t have done it without you. ❤️🐾

Now we’re looking for the family who will make sure Gus never has to wonder where his family went again.

Say hello to Scar 👋

This big boy found himself on the euthanasia list and we couldn’t let that happen.

At first glance, Scar might look a little rough around the edges… but spend a few minutes with this 3 year old Mastiff and those big, sad eyes will completely melt your heart.

This poor boy was found running stray in a rural area, and it’s painfully obvious that he had been on his own for quite some time. As you can see from his picture, he is very skinny and yet somehow, this absolute monster of a dog is still a whopping 125 pounds. 😳

He may be skinny, he may be beat up,
and he may have a face that looks like he’s seen some things, but underneath it all is an absolute gentle giant. 🥹

Scar is affectionate, loving, and incredibly grateful for every bit of attention he receives. He’s soaking up that “out of the shelter” life and eating like a bottomless pit. AND THIS BOY CAN EAT.

Scar has some healing and weight gaining to do but we’re committed to making him healthy and happy.

Meet Stella 🐾

This 3 year old pretty girl fits the stereotypical lab profile perfectly. Loves the water, extremely loving, and has an addiction to playing fetch.

When she claims “her person” she will follow you around like your shadow. She has the young lab energy but absolutely loves laying around on a comfy dog bed or soaking up some snuggles on the couch.

Stella has two requests for her forever home. They must have a pool because swimming is her all time favorite thing. They must also be willing to play fetch daily because aside from swimming, that is the next best thing in Stella world.

She is cat, dog, and kid friendly. If you feel like your home could be a good fit for sweet Stella please send us a message.
