🌞 May 2026 Recap – Sunshine & Second Chances 🌞

May was absolutely incredible at LCHS! We celebrated 23 AMAZING adoptions, making this our highest adoption month of the year so far and beating April's record by one adoption! πŸŽ‰πŸΎ

From tiny kittens to brand-new arrivals to some of our beloved long-term residents, so many animals found the loving homes they deserve. We're especially excited for Zag, Butterbean, and Daffy Duck, who finally got their happy endings after spending extra time waiting for the right families.
And of course, there wasn't a dry eye in the shelter when Miss Vida found her forever home. πŸ’œ

🌸 May Highlights
β€’ Kitten Season Chaos Continues! Our fosters are FULL and doing an amazing job! The kittens are getting bigger every day and many will soon be returning to the shelter to start searching for forever homes.
β€’ Doggy Daycations = Happy Dogs! A huge thank you to Kim and Michelle for taking so many of our pups on adventures this month. Whether it was a walk, a car ride, or just some couch time, these outings make such a difference.

β€’ Mrs. Legner's 5th Grade Class Visit and one of our favorite recurring traditions! We loved spending time with these young animal lovers.
β€’ Garage Sale & Vendor Market Success! What an amazing day! Thank you to everyone who shopped, donated, volunteered, vended, and stopped by. Events like this help us continue providing the best care possible for the animals.

2 Weeks' Worth of Adoptions... and What an Update It Is! πŸ₯³πŸΎ

Dogs: Butterbean, Daffy, Zeus, Fancy, Vida, Algernon
Cats: Oatmeal Cream Pie, Sugar

There have been lots and lots of happy tears around LCHS these past two weeks. πŸ’›

We're celebrating 8 amazing adoptions, including some very special goodbyes. Brothers Daffy and Zeus both found their forever homes! While they went to different families, we're so excited that both boys got the happy ending they deserved.

We're also overjoyed for Butterbean, who stole so many hearts during her time with us, and our sweet special girl Vida, who finally found the perfect family to call her own.

And of course, congratulations to Fancy, Algernon, Oatmeal Cream Pie, and Sugar as they begin this exciting new chapter of their lives!

Every adoption is special, but seeing these wonderful animals leave the shelter and start their forever journeys is what makes all the hard work worth it. We couldn't be happier for them and their new families.

As always, we still have many amazing dogs and cats waiting patiently for their turn. If you're looking to add a furry family member, be sure to check out our website and meet your new best friend! πŸ’•

Some dogs need a little time to warm up. Sunny D only needed a few minutes. πŸ’›

Today, this handsome boy spent the day out of the shelter with volunteer Kim, and he quickly showed what a wonderful companion he can be. Sunny rode calmly in the car, enjoyed looking out the windows, and spent his day playing ball, going for walks, working on his "sit" command, and carrying around a favorite stuffless toy.

When he first met Kim’s husband, Sunny gave a single bark to let everyone know he was checking things out. After a quick sniff and introduction, he happily settled in and spent the rest of the day exploring his surroundings and staying close to his people. He seems to genuinely enjoy being near you and soaking up attention.

One of the funniest moments of the day came at lunchtime. Sunny followed Kim’s husband, Pat around the kitchen, then sat directly in front of him while he ate, giving him the classic "Are you really going to eat all of that yourself?" look. πŸ˜‚ His favorite snack? Apple slices! 🍎

Kim described Sunny as affectionate, curious, and easygoing once he gets comfortable. Whether you're a single person, a couple, a family, or a senior looking for a companion, Sunny D seems ready to fit right in.

At the end of the day, Kim summed it up best:
"This dog is a very good dog that does not appear to have behavior issues... so why is he still at the shelter?"

Honestly, we're wondering the same thing. ❀️

Come meet Sunny D and see for yourself why everyone who spends time with him falls in love. πŸΎπŸ‘πŸ’•

Shelter Updates & Upgrades! 🀩

We are incredibly grateful to the Apollos Camp & Bennett Humiston Trust for their generous grant that has helped us make several important improvements to our shelter. Their support is making a lasting impact on the animals in our care, our staff, and our visitors.

Thanks to this grant, we were able to:
✨ Install new lighting throughout the entire shelter, creating a brighter and more welcoming environment.
❄️πŸ”₯ Add a new heating and air conditioning unit to one of our cat rooms, helping keep our feline residents comfortable year-round.
πŸš— Place a new shelter sign along Route 23, making it easier for visitors, adopters, and supporters to find us.
πŸ“¦ Add custom-built storage shelving, handcrafted by the talented students of the Pontiac Woods Class, helping us stay organized and maximize our space.
πŸŒ‰ Receive a beautiful wooden bridge, also built by the Pontiac Woods Class, that will become a special feature in our memorial dedication area currently under development.
πŸ• Install a new hose reel in one of our dog rooms, making daily cleaning and animal care more efficient.

These improvements may seem like simple upgrades, but each one helps us provide better care for the animals who depend on us every day.

Please join us in thanking the Apollos Camp & Bennett Humiston Trust and the Pontiac Woods Class for investing in our mission and helping us continue to improve our shelter for the animals we serve. ❀️🐾
