Hey everyone!

I’ll be away and unreachable from now through Monday. I’ll be catching up on texts, DMs, emails, and voicemails Monday morning through the afternoon, so please don’t panic if you don’t hear back from me right away!

A little shop update: we’re currently giving the place a facelift. 🛠️ Things are a little chaotic around here for the next couple of weeks, but we’re working on making the space even better. Thanks for bearing with the construction mess while we get it done!

September is filling up FAST for all services.

Now that I have some part-time help, I’m able to open up a few spots for small dogs under 20 lbs on the rotating grooming schedule. If you have a small dog who needs regular grooming and you’d like to get on a recurring schedule, shoot me a message!

And finally…pack walks, I will have some dates posted when I come back to the office Monday!

Roll call for tomorrows coffee club 🐾

Tomorrow’s stroll is mostly reactive dogs, these dogs struggle with on leash greetings and require a bit more personal space. Let’s make sure we’re being accommodating to the dogs still learning and please keep your dogs on a short leash and avoid greeting the others. Be mindful of your space and we will practice some skills as a group before heading downtown. I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow morning!

Meli Belly is moving on to her next adventure tomorrow and I am really going to miss this wild little lady.

Meli came in as an urgent foster from a rough situation. Through some networking and great friends we were able to get Meli vetted and transported to me quickly.

She has started crate training, housebreaking, engagement foundations, and socialization. She is now moving on to continue her skills with her new home and new trainer. She is in amazing hands and I couldn’t be more honored to have been a part of her journey.

I’ll be getting back to my messages and clients by tomorrow (Friday). Thank you for your patience and understanding while I’ve been a little MIA.

I spent my day in the ER with Valhalla, and thankfully, I think he is now on the upswing. It was a long day but I’m incredibly grateful for the veterinary team who cared for us.

Valhalla is *spicy* at the vet, so I was allowed to handle him for induction and recovery from
his procedure. While I sat there in his kennel, I watched hit by car dogs, seizing dogs, airway emergencies, critical injuries, and all kinds of seriously ill pets come through the doors. It was a reminder of just how quickly an emergency veterinary hospital can become overwhelmed.

So, if you ever find yourself sitting in an ER waiting room with your pet and wondering why you’ve been waiting so long, please remember: there are often several emergencies happening behind the scenes that you may not be seeing.

Emergency vets and their staff are dealing with some of the worst moments people experience with their animals. They are tired, they are busy, they skip lunch, they don’t take bathroom breaks and they are doing their best to prioritize the patients who need immediate, life saving care.

And to the veterinary teams working those long and chaotic shifts, thank you. You take care of our family members on some of the hardest days of our lives, and it doesn’t go unnoticed.

I’m especially thankful that my own dog is feeling a little better.

We’ve got a full month of group activities lined up! Whether you’re looking to work on neutrality, engagement, obedience around distractions, or just get out and enjoy some structured time with your dog, there’s something for you.

Off-leash e-collar practice for approved dogs.

These walks are a great opportunity to practice your skills around real-world distractions while learning how to navigate a group environment. Please be respectful of other dogs’ space and come prepared to work your dog.

NAIL TRIM DAY
August 22nd 8:00 AM–2:00 PM

A few reminders:
• Group activities are for VK9 training clients/dogs who have been approved for group sessions.
• E-collars and long lines are welcome where appropriate.
• Please bring whatever equipment you normally use for your dog’s training.
• Give other dogs plenty of space—especially when entering/leaving the group.
• If your dog is reactive, nervous, or easily overwhelmed, please reach out beforehand so we can make sure the session is appropriate.

Weekend Roll Call!

Group walks are reserved for current Valhalla K9 training clients whose dogs have been approved for group sessions.

This week’s pack walk is shaping up to be a great group with quite a few dogs attending, so let’s make sure we’re setting everyone up for success.

A few reminders:
• Please give every dog plenty of space. There’s no need for dogs to meet or greet each other. Once everyone has settled in to the walk we may have supervised greetings but please avoid letting your dog drag up to others in the parking lot. High arousal greetings don’t always go well and we want everyone to have a good experience!

• Be aware of your surroundings and avoid crowding another handler or dog.

• Long lines and e-collars are welcome, just be mindful of where your line is and help prevent tangles or dogs drifting into another team’s space.

• If your dog needs extra distance, advocate for them. There’s absolutely no judgment here.

• Our goal is calm, neutral behavior and working together in a real-world environment.
