As we start introducing Red Brangus bulls to the cattle industry and sharing facts about their impressive traits, it’s important to back it up with proof, not just words. Here are two examples from the 2026 bull gain test of 80 head. On May 29th, the legendary Donnie Roberts ultra-sounded 80 bulls in Gonzales, Texas. After scanning and averaging the scores, the bulls had an average intramuscular fat score of 3.62. I emphasize “bulls” because they typically lose 1 to 1.5 percentage points due to higher testosterone levels from being intact. In simpler terms, if they had been steers, they would have averaged between 4.62 and 5.1 intramuscular fat, with every bull grading “Choice” and a large percentage reaching the top “Prime” grade!
The second statistic, which we believe is equally or even more important, is fertility. On August 21st, we returned to Gonzales to conduct breeding soundness and fertility tests on the same group of bulls. By the end of the day, after testing 80 bulls aged 15 to 19 months, 69 passed the semen test, with only 3 showing abnormalities that could prevent breeding. What makes this truly remarkable is: 1) all bulls were virgins with no prior opportunity for clean out; 2) they were just 15 to 19 months old, showing extreme early maturity; and 3) they were tested in August after enduring over 100-degree temperatures, with heat indexes reaching 104 to 108, for the past four months. Despite facing extraordinarily challenging conditions, the bulls demonstrated exceptional performance, operating at their highest potential and achieving optimal results. Incredible! This is exactly why these bulls are in demand worldwide, especially in hot, humid climates, yet they can adapt and thrive even in cold weather. 4. These bulls come from 22 different Red Brangus breeders within the International Red Brangus Breeders Association, pulled straight from the pasture and placed into the program—no hand selection, no preconditioning, nothing. We believe this approach adds credibility to the entire breed, not just a select few bulls.
