Tether training is such an effective tool. Dogs don’t come with breaks, just an acceleration pedal. In order to live with us in a human world, they need to learn how to settle, relax, and down shift.

Crate training and tether training have so many similarities, but also completely different uses.

This is completely unnecessary, and I would never recommend doing this. Instead,

When a dog that you don’t know needs to investigate you to figure out who you are, let them without interrupting them. You’ve heard me say this a thousand times, ignore them, and the first time a dog sniffs you is not an invitation for affection, instead it is an investigation. ONce they have learned who you are, and are comfortable, greet the dog.

For some dogs this can take .1 second, but for some, you’ll notice body language that tells you the dog isn’t ready. If you see the dog in front of you stretching out, but still has a great deal of weight ready to be sprung backwards, thats a no go. If they look hesitant or uncertain, it’s always best to act like they aren’t there.

If your dog screws up a command, do it again. just like my teacher in English class, don't end on a failure, get a good rep in, reward and move back on with your life.

Remember, it's important for you to also move on from a mistake. Rep it again, and throw it out. Too many owners gets so emotionally charged when their dog makes a mistake, but guess what? they are dogs, and they are going to make mistakes. Those mistakes don't matter, your reaction to them do.

What does a leash correction look like? Like this. This dog came in for leash reactivity towards other dogs, so I put Crunch's ass to work. Typically owners will wait until their dog has spiraled into full blown reactivity, but the goal is to catch them as the behavior starts. It's much easier to slow a car going 5 MPH versus 100MPH.

Your energy is so important. Timidness, nervousness, it's all weakness in the dog world. Calm, firm, steady, and continue marching forward. You are the driver of the car, and your dog is a passenger along for the ride.

On the second pass you can see him still checking Crunch out. That is important to allow him to look and process, and for him to understand looking ins't a problem. I don't like the concept of teaching dogs they aren't allowed to look at their triggers. If that's the case, I should just put my dogs in a blindfold and call it a day. They need to be able to look, just make better decisions.

Dog training is all about training the human in front of you, as much as training the dog. Your dog should love their crate. LOVVEEEE. And this game is an easy way to do that.

When you are training your younger dog, you should try and use their kibble or meal as the food reward instead of high value treats.

Number 1 is going to surprise you, but here is the truth.

I don't care if you have a lazy dog or not, they still require time, patience, training, and MONEY!!! some of these on this list require a good bit of the last one, so keep that in mind.
