10 Boundaries Every Pet Sitter Should Have With Clients:
1. 🚫 No undisclosed third parties.
If someone else will be staying there or regularly entering the home, you deserve to know upfront.
2. 🐶 Every pet must be disclosed.
Four dogs means four dogs. Cats, birds, reptiles, chickens, etc.
Know exactly what you're agreeing to care for.
3. 💊 Know the complete health picture.
Allergies, medications, medical conditions, behavioral issues, special diets. Ask before you accept the sit.
4. 📋 Get expectations in writing.
Walks, feeding, cleaning, errands, transportation, mail. Know your responsibilities before you arrive.
5. 🏠 Protect your privacy.
You are entitled to reasonable privacy while living in someone's home. Ask about cameras and monitoring devices before the sit begins. 6. Don't tolerate racial disrespect.
You shouldn't have to deal with racial comments, discriminatory neighbors, profiling, or behavior that makes you feel unsafe or unwelcome.
7. 🧼 Set your own cleanliness limits.
Leave the home respectfully cared for. But remember: you're a pet sitter, not an unpaid housekeeper. Clarify cleaning expectations beforehand.
8. ⏰ Protect your agreed-upon schedule.
Your arrival and departure dates matter. If a client changes their plans, you don't automatically have to rearrange yours.
9. 💰 Don't accept surprise responsibilities.
Extra pets, errands, appointments, transportation, deep cleaning, or other tasks? Discuss the additional responsibility before agreeing.
10. 🤝 Remember that your time has value.
Free accommodation doesn't mean free labor. You're providing time, expertise, responsibility, and care. Treat your work like the professional service it is.
