🚨 WE NEED TRANSPORT BY MONDAY FOR SALAMI 🚨

Salami is FeLV+ and sadly at risk of euthanasia at ACCT Philly. We have a foster ready for him in East Liberty, but ACCT needs confirmed placement by MONDAY, OCTOBER 19 AT 10 AM.

We know… we JUST pulled 8 cats and a dog from ACCT Philly. 😭 But when we were discussing which cats we could take, we had specifically told the shelter that we had a foster home open for an FeLV+ cat.

At the time, they didn’t have anyone who needed placement. Then yesterday, of course the day AFTER our transport, Salami arrived and they called us personally to see if we could pull him.

Salami was previously treated for an abscess and returned to his caretaker earlier this year, but he is now back at the shelter with mange and FeLV. His mange has been treated, but he cannot safely return outdoors. Despite everything, he enjoys gentle affection.

He has a foster and our rescue to back him. He just needs a ride.

We need a driver to get him from ACCT Philly to a halfway point and a Pittsburgh-area driver to bring him from the halfway point to East Liberty.

You do not need to drive the entire route, any portion helps.

DONATIONS NEEDED FOR THE PHILLY CREW!

Late last night, 9 little lives arrived in Pittsburgh from ACCT Philly. As you know, they’re at a critical level for cats right now. Instead of wishing we could help, we decided to actually do it. So meet our newest honorary Yinzers!

Billy & Mandy (fka Oink & Rabbit) - 5-6 week old kittens who were probably kitten-napped and brought to the shelter. They were timestamped because they were too young to stay in the shelter and desperately needed placement.

Cecil (fka Destroyer 5000) - at least 10 years old, found in someone’s yard and surrendered because he was “destroying their yard.”

Legolas (fka Legs) - 12 years old and surrendered because his owner got a new couch and didn’t want him scratching it (and no, we’re not kidding.)

Fajita - 10 years old, who had to be trapped inside his home after his owner died

Maple & Chai (fka Cruella & Meowlo) - young strays being fed by someone who brought them in before moving and was worried about leaving them behind. Maple was pregnant.

Emmy (fka Tampa) - just 5 months old, found outside

And lastly… Squeaky aka Tatianna! Squeaky was surrendered by her owner, who had her since birth, due to being unhoused. Since we were already bringing the cats, we figured we might as well save a timestamped pupper too. She was timestamped for Thursday and instead got her freedom ride to Pittsburgh! She’s a very sweet little pittie mix and headed to her foster this morning. 🥹

We’re incredibly grateful to work with ACCT Philly. Their team works SO hard to save these animals and we’re honored to be a small part in that.

Now that these 9 are safe, we need your help!

Cecil, Legolas, and Fajita all need dental work. Emmy and Winston still need spayed/neutered. Billy and Mandy will need to be fully vetted once they’re old enough, plus lots of care in between.

And we just opened our LAST CASE of kitten food for Billy and Mandy, which means we have nothing left for the many other kittens in our care.

UPDATE: COVERED!

🚨 URGENT TRANSPORT NEEDED: PHILLY TO PITTSBURGH THIS THURSDAY, 10/15! 🚨

We’ve secured placement to pull at least 5 cats from ACCT Philly this Thursday, and we’re working hard to make room to save even more lives before then. But right now, we the one major obstacle standing in our way is TRANSPORT.

Our usual transport helpers are either out of Philly this week or unfortunately unavailable, and we desperately need someone who can help get these cats to safety.

We need a someone who can pick up the cats from ACCT Philly and transport them to Pittsburgh, OR
someone who can drive one leg of the trip to help get them closer to home.

We have a driver from Pittsburgh who can meet as far east as Spring Run, about 2.5 hours from Philly, so even if you can’t make the entire drive, you could be the missing link that makes this transport possible!

These cats have a chance at getting out of the shelter and into safety, but we need someone willing to step up and help get them there. We’re hoping to save even more lives, and finding transport could make all the difference.

PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH ANYONE YOU KNOW IN OR AROUND PHILLY! You don’t have to be a rescue volunteer to help. If you have a reliable vehicle big enough to fit 5 cardboard carriers and can spare some time Thursday, you could literally save lives.

🚨 CODE RED: Help us save the lives of cats in Philly. 🚨

This week, we received an email from ACCT Philly that they are currently facing a capacity crisis for cats. And we all know what that means… incredibly difficult, heartbreaking decisions about cats who have simply ran out of time and space.

When we look into the eyes of cats like Duchess, Simba, Alex, Sis, and so many others we’ve saved from Philly, we have to ask ourselves what made them more worthy of saving than the other cats currently waiting at ACCT?

The answer is nothing. They were simply there at the right time, when we had the capacity to say yes.

Right now, we don’t have that capacity and we want to change that.

We’re hoping to coordinate a pull from ACCT by next Thursday, with a goal of saving AT LEAST 5 cats. To do that, we need at least 5 of our current cats to move into new placements.

That could mean one of our over 60 available, adoptable cat finding their forever home, a new foster opening their home to another cat, a vetted cat transferring to a reputable rescue, or an existing foster taking on another cat.

These aren’t cats from across the country. They aren’t cats from Texas or overseas. They’re cats from our own state, our own sister city of Philadelphia.

We want to help take some pressure off ACCT Philly, the ONLY open-intake shelter serving a city of 1.5 million people. We need YOU to make room for us to say yes.

🎃👻 WE’RE GETTING SPOOKY AT THE KAMIN SCIENCE CENTER! 👻🎃

Join us TOMORROW, October 9 from 6–10 PM for the Kamin Science Center 21+ Night: Haunted Science Center!

We’ll be bringing along some very spooky (and very cute) guests, including black kitties Belmont & Sterling, a pair of surprise kittens, and, most importantly, Diesel!

Diesel is our main fundraising goal for the night. He has a recurring ear polyp and CT showed severe inflammation and infection, and he needs a ventral bulla osteotomy (VBO) surgery on October 21. We’re hoping to raise $1,200 toward his surgery!

Come have a hauntingly good time with us while you meet Diesel & friends, shop our merch, spin the wheel to win prizes, donate to help Diesel get the care he needs, and enjoy a night full of haunts, ghosts, tricks and treats!

🐢 HAPPY TAILS, KITTY! 🐢

Kitty the turtle has officially recovered from her surgery to remove the fishing hook from her throat and finished all of her medications like an absolute champ, thanks to her rescuer and foster, Cedar!

And even more excitingly, yesterday Kitty made the journey ALL the way from Pittsburgh to Sunbury thanks to Nick and Jenn, who got her safely to her new home with Chris and Shannon!

Chris and Shannon are experienced exotic animal owners, with everything from turtles and tortoises to frogs, lizards, birds, and beyond, so we know Ms. Kitty is in VERY good hands. She’ll have an awesome big indoor pond setup where she can live her best life comfortably, safely, and, most importantly, fish hook free!!

What a silly little side quest for a cat rescue. But hey, another day, another little life saved. And isn’t that the goal? No matter the species, fuzzy, furry, feathered, or covered in scales, it doesn’t matter to us. We’re going to help when we can!

(Although we are definitely sticking to cats and the occasional timestamped doggy from here on out lol)

NEW TNR AND CAT ASSISTANCE WAITLIST

We’ve been completely flooded with requests for TNR and cat assistance. We’re grateful people trust us with their communities, but our current system isn’t sustainable.

So we’re officially starting a TNR and Cat Assistance Waitlist!

Need help? Start by filling out our new Cat Help Request Form, found at the link tree in our bio or website under “Cat Help Request.” This applies to anyone requesting assistance, including colony caretakers referred to us by volunteers.

Requests will generally be handled in the order received, but we’ll also use a triage system. Kittens, pregnant cats, sick/injured cats, and other urgent situations may be prioritized.

Submitting the form does NOT automatically put you on the waitlist. We’ll review each request first. If we can add it to our waitlist, you will receive next steps and our new TNR & Cat Assistance Agreement, which must be signed before you are officially added.

The agreement establishes some important expectations, including:

Friendly cats and socializable kittens trapped through our assistance become OTNRC property and enter our foster/adoption program. They will not be returned outdoors.

Truly feral cats will be returned to their original location after TNR, with the caretaker remaining responsible for ongoing food, water, shelter, and monitoring.

Caretakers must follow OTNRC’s trapping, feeding, medical, and colony-management instructions or risk removal of our services.

OTNRC is not obligated to provide updates on cats or kittens once they are in our foster program.

For now, our assistance waitlist is limited to locations within Pittsburgh city limits.

This system isn’t about helping fewer cats. It’s about creating a sustainable process that lets us be honest about our capacity while helping the cats who need us most.

Remember, our services are FREE and we are 100% volunteer-run. Thank you for understanding and helping us make this work!

Imagine for a second that you’re a young teenager, a middle schooler even.

You’re suddenly kicked out of your home and forced to live on the streets, completely on your own with no resources and no one to help. You’re vulnerable, too young and small to protect yourself, and something bad happens to you. The next thing you know, you’re pregnant.

That was essentially Coratella’s story.

Of course not talking about a human here, but since the anti spay abort crowd loves to anthropomorphize cats in their arguments, we may as well lean into it.

Yesterday, Coratella was spayed, terminating a pregnancy that would have resulted in SEVEN kittens.

She was estimated to be under a year old, meaning she is anywhere from 6-11 MONTHS old. That’s roughly equivalent to a 10-14 year old human child. Let that sink in.

Cora clearly lived inside at some point, but is incredibly skinny and was clearly struggling to survive on the streets. Without intervention, this little girl could have been giving birth on the streets while still a kitten herself. Who knows if she or those kittens would have survived (statistically speaking, we already know the most likely outcome…).

Luckily, Cora’s story gets to end differently.

A good Samaritan found her and reached out for help. We saw another rescuer’s post, had an open kennel, and knew we had to step in.

Huge thank you to our friends at Homeless Cat Management Team for squeezing Cora in, Margo from HCMT for generously covering her vet bill, and Courtney, a volunteer with Fur All Kittys, for picking her up in Allentown and driving her all the way to Natrona Heights for her spay, then back to foster in Swissvale.

Cora is safe, no longer pregnant and will never have to give birth on the streets. Now she gets to grow up and be a normal kitten!❤️

Rescue is truly a team effort. Without collaboration between rescuers, fosters, volunteers, finders, and donors, cats like Coratella wouldn’t get their second chance!

🚨Food donations still desparately needed!!🚨

We got a few bags of dry food and one case of kitten wet food since our last post, and we are SO incredibly thankful to everyone who sent a little something and shared! However with 130 little mouths to feed, sadly that little bit isn’t going to get us very far.

We are still completely out of adult wet food. We did go from zero to one whole case of kitten food, soooo progress technically???😝

But okay for real guys we really need to get our food stock back up before these cats decide they’ve had enough. At this rate, we may have to start sacrificing ourselves to feed them.

And then once they get a taste of human blood, who knows what happens next?! What if they love it and then we have 130 tiny apex predators demanding human flesh and human flesh only, and then who the hell is going to adopt our cats when they only want to eat human meat?!?!

Think of our skin (that we want to keep), think of the adoptability and PLEASE SEND FOOD! 🥺👉🏻👈🏻

A case of adult wet food, kitten food, or bags of dry food from our wishlist would make a HUGE difference right now. And if a $20 case of food isn’t in the budget, monetary donations toward our vet bills are always helpful too even $1 or $5 goes a long way in the end.
