🌈 Hi gay! Happy Pride once again from the gayest cat rescue in Pittsburgh! 🌈

If you’ve ever adopted a cat from us, there’s a pretty good chance that cat was trapped, rescued, fostered, transported, socialized, or medicated by a q***r person.

Last Pride, we changed our profile picture to include the Progress Pride flag. We never changed it back, because without q***r people, there is no Oakland TNR Coalition.

This month, and every month, we’re proud to stand with our LGBTQ+ community, especially our trans community.

Swipe through to read more about why Pride matters to us, the intersection of q***r liberation and animal liberation, and why we believe liberation for all means ALL.

$5 Friday for Pip!

No trapping roundup this week (although we did catch 2 new cats ), because right now all eyes are on Pip.

In just one week, Pip heads to Safe Haven Vet for a rhinoscopy and biopsy to finally get answers about the breathing issues that have plagued him since intake and likely his whole life.

Back in April, Pip’s CT scan gave us some good news that there was no mass, foreign object, or polyp. But it also confirmed significant swelling around his larynx, the source of the noisy, labored breathing we’ve been hearing.

The problem is we still don’t know *why*

Steroids didn’t help, which means this may be more sinister than a simple inflammatory condition. The next step is for an internist to look directly at his airway and collect tissue samples for testing so we can finally determine what’s causing the swelling.

Pip’s procedure is scheduled for June 12, 2026 with the internist at Safe Haven Vet in Wexford. This Consult will cost $195 and we’ve been giving a Procedure estimate of $1,800–$2,300

Our fundraising goal is $2,300.

Pip is still so young. He’s incredibly sweet, affectionate, and trusting, the kind of cat who just wants to be loved and befriends every human and cat he meets. He deserves a future where every breath isn’t a struggle.

If you’ve got $5 to spare today, we’d be so grateful. If you can’t donate, sharing this post helps more than you know.

Every dollar brings us closer to answers. Every share helps Pip find the future he deserves!

HAAALLLP! We’re out of food again. 😭

It feels like we’re always asking, but with more than 100 hungry mouths to feed, we’re blowing through food faster than we can restock it.

Right now, our adult wet food shelves are completely EMPTY, and our kitten wet food supply isn’t far behind. We only have a few small bags of adult and kitten dry food left, and those won’t last long either.

We really need yinz to come through for us so we can keep our limited funds focused on medical care, spay/neuter surgeries, and vet bills not emergency food purchases.

Every donation helps. Whether it’s a small bag of kibble, a few cans of wet food, or a larger contribution, it all adds up and keeps our cats fed while they wait for forever homes.

Our wishlists are linked below. Donations can also be dropped off or purchased at the Petco in the Waterfront (Homestead) as part of their ā€œFill the Binā€ donation drive benefiting us!

Last night, we said goodbye to Curdle, one of the original three kittens from the Larimer colony. šŸ’”

As the kittens began reaching normal milestones like using the litter box on their own, Curdle’s foster noticed something wasn’t right. He was straining badly and seemed severely constipated. We started him on Miralax, but when that didn’t help, our friends at Rescue and Relax stepped in last night to help attempt an e***a.

Once they got hands on him, it quickly became clear something far more serious was going on. They were unable to perform the e***a because it felt like there was a blockage. We rushed Curdle to BluePearl, where the veterinarians found the same issue during his exam and took x-rays to understand what was happening. The results were devastating.

Curdle was diagnosed with atresia ani, also known as an imperforate a**s, a rare birth defect where the re**um fails to connect properly to the a**s. Because there is no opening to the outside, the kitten cannot pass stool normally. His intestines were massively enlarged and distended with gas and waste buildup.

In some cases, corrective surgery is possible. But poor Curdle’s condition was so severe that even with surgery, his tiny half-pound body was unlikely to survive, and if he did, he would have faced a lifetime of pain, complications, and poor quality of life. The swelling and damage to his GI tract were extensive.

And yet despite all of that, Curdle remained unbelievably sweet. Looking at those x-rays, it’s hard to comprehend how much discomfort he must have been in while still being such a loving little kitten with a big personality.

With guidance from the veterinary team and the support of his foster, we made the heartbreaking decision to end his suffering peacefully.

Rest easy, sweet Curdle. We are so sorry your life was so short.

His emergency visit, diagnostics, and end-of-life care totaled $455.80. We are still struggling under the weight of previous medical bills, so if you would like to donate in Curdle’s memory, it would mean so much to us and help us continue saying yes to kittens who need us most.

We heard yesterday was World Goth Day šŸ–¤šŸ”®

Every goth baddie deserves their own tiny house panther, and Ravage is just one of several black and tuxedo kitties waiting to become someone’s familiar.

And according to the cards, Ravage’s future includes finding her forever coven of witches very soon. The World card represents destiny and fulfillment, which sounds a lot like finally going home to her goth parent. Could it be you?

Black cats may be the most overlooked, but we think they’re pure magic. So consult the tarot, trust the universe, and find your very own bat cat at the link below. šŸ¦‡šŸ–¤

$5 Friday for Miss Myrtle!

Normally today would be our weekly trapping roundup, but this week was a lighter one with only 2 cats caught while volunteers juggled life, work, fosters, vet runs, and rescue chaos. So instead, we figured it was finally time to introduce yinz to the old lady from the Slopes, so meet Miss Myrtle!

Myrtle first appeared at the Slopes colony back in February. She was already ear tipped, constantly crying, and always getting chased away from food by the other ferals. She refused traps for months, but as she started losing weight, we knew she needed help. During the same week we trapped Brave, Myrtle was finally caught too.

At the vet, we learned Myrtle is at least 10 years old and has no teeth.

As neighbors started talking, we learned the heartbreaking truth that Myrtle was never feral at all. She belonged to an elderly couple nearby, but after the wife passed away and the husband moved in with family, Myrtle was left behind to survive outside alone.

She didn’t know how to compete for food, defend herself, or survive on the streets. She was just trying her best.

Her bloodwork showed some abnormalities that could be related to her time outside, allergies, an autoimmune issue, or even very early kidney disease. Her skin scrape was negative and we’re still waiting on fungal culture results. She’ll go back in about 3 weeks for repeat bloodwork so we can hopefully get more definitive answers.

Despite everything, Myrtle has been incredibly tolerant and sweet, even while she relearns how to trust people again.

We’d love to find this old lady a foster home where she can finally feel safe, warm, and spoiled. She’d probably prefer being someone’s only cat and would need separated from resident cats for now while we sort out her skin issues.

If you’d like to give this old lady a chance, please consider applying to foster.

Foster Application —> bit.ly/otnrc_foster

Between her initial exam and this week’s follow-up bloodwork, we’ve already spent about $290 on Myrtle alone. If you’d like to help offset her care costs, it would mean the world to us and to Myrtle.
