10 years young, a whole lot of personality, and still waiting for her spotlight.

Meet Lucinda, our resident grande dame who knows exactly what she wants in life. And frankly, we respect that.

This beautiful senior cat came to Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh as a stray in rough shape. Now, she's ready to trade shelter life for a home where she can finally be treated like the royalty she is.

Her royal requests? Plenty of ear scratches, a high-walled litter box, and absolutely no other cats competing for her spotlight.

At 10 years old, Lucinda isn't asking for much. Just a soft place to land, someone to adore her, and the chance to spend her golden years being someone's leading lady.

Lucinda has waited long enough for her starring role. Could you be her person?

Visit Lucinda at our East Side shelter or learn more about adopting her: https://bit.ly/4ygvMf7

Can't adopt? Share her story and help this senior sweetheart find her audience.

Kitten season is still happening! HARP is so grateful for our partner, Orphan Kitten Club, for providing funding, resources and mentorship support to help us save more vulnerable lives. An Innovation program grant from OKC provided kitten care kits brimming with supplies and food: “Calico Caddies” for HARP neonatal kitten foster volunteers, and “Tabby Totes” for “finder fosters” of stray kittens willing and able to help them grow at home instead of the shelter.

Thanks to Orphan Kitten Club’s Mightycat Grant Program and our dedicated foster volunteers, HARP is ready to welcome kittens and wrap them in warm loving care, any time of the year. Orphan Kitten Club

What if you could make a dog's day AND change their life?

October 22 marks the 8th annual National Make a Dog's Day, a special day created by Subaru to celebrate the dogs who make our lives better and encourage us to return the favor.

At Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh, we're celebrating the dogs still waiting for their chance to become someone's loyal companion, adventure partner, or favorite couch buddy. Meet Mosey! She has been waiting too long of her FURever home!

And you can help make their day! Whether you adopt, foster, volunteer, or support the care of shelter animals, every act of kindness makes a difference.

This month, let's make more than a dog's day. Let's help make their future.

What if you could save a life without adopting?

That's exactly what fostering makes possible!

When you foster with Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh, you temporarily welcome an animal into your home while they prepare for their next chapter.

Some animals need a quiet place to recover. Others need a break from the shelter, extra socialization, or simply a comfortable place to be themselves while they wait for adoption.

And you don't have to do it alone. HARP provides guidance, supplies, and veterinary care while you provide the love and a safe place to land.

Whether you have room for a few weeks or longer, fostering is one of the most meaningful ways to make a difference for animals in Pittsburgh.

This week, we're celebrating the veterinary technicians who bring skill, compassion and dedication to the care of animals at Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh.

From supporting medical procedures and monitoring recovery to offering comfort when an animal needs it most, our vet techs play an essential role in helping animals get the care they need.

Please join us in thanking our incredible veterinary technician team for all they do for the animals in our care!

Future veterinarian? Wildlife rehabilitator? Scientist? Educator? Animal welfare professional? Or maybe a career they haven’t even discovered yet.

That’s part of the fun of summer programming at HARP.

During this summer's Camp Rescue and Jr. Rehabber Corps programs, the next generation got the chance to experience animals, wildlife, and animal welfare in ways they might not encounter anywhere else. They asked questions, tried new things, and got a closer look at the many different people, skills, and careers it takes to care for animals and our community.

Because humane education is about much more than learning about animals.

It’s about curiosity. Empathy. Problem-solving. Responsibility. And learning to see how animals, people, and the world around us are all connected.

Will every enthusiastic young animal advocate grow up to work with animals? Probably not. But one experience can spark an interest, uncover a talent, or introduce a child to a possibility they didn’t know existed.

And no matter where they go next, compassion is a pretty great skill to take with them.
Thank you to our participants, families, and Education team for an incredible summer of learning, exploring and discovering what might come next.

From HARP alum to corporate leadership. We love to see it.

Our friends and longtime supporters at Fragasso Wealth Advisors recently announced a very important promotion: Cherry, a HARP alum, has officially risen to the role of Chief Morale Officer.

We always love seeing where life takes HARP alumni after adoption, but watching one climb the corporate ladder at an organization that has done so much to support animals like her? That makes this one extra special.

Congratulations, Cherry. We always knew you were management material.

And thank you to the entire Fragasso team for continuing to show up for Pittsburgh’s animals, both at HARP and in the office.

Finding loving homes for shelter pets takes a community, and we're grateful to have Subaru along for the ride!

This October, Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh is joining shelters across the country to celebrate , a nationwide initiative dedicated to helping animals find the families they've been waiting for.

Through local events and community partnerships, we're creating more opportunities for Pittsburgh pets to meet their future families.

Because when businesses, shelters, and animal lovers come together, we can make a meaningful difference for animals in need.

Stop by to meet a special HARP guest and learn more about the pets and programs that make a difference in the lives of animals in our community.

Want to support the cause? Donations from our wish list help us care for the animals waiting for their families. https://bit.ly/4igxhVY

Today we’re celebrating Amanda, Adoptions Manager at Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh, and an incredible milestone: 5,000 adoptions.

For more than nine years, Amanda has helped animals and people find one another. Her care doesn’t end when an adoption is complete. She still keeps in touch with Finland, an Akita she fostered and championed before he found his family in 2018. She even dog-sits for him from time to time. “Some of them just stick with you,” she said.

Amanda’s dedication shows in every connection she helps make and in the lasting relationships she carries with her. We’re grateful for the compassion, commitment, and heart she brings to this work every day.

Fast Eddie was adoption number 5,000. Congratulations, Amanda, and thank you for all you do!

✨ Makeover Monday ✨

Talk about a glow-up with a happy ending! 🤍🐾

Consultant, a small fluffy white pup, came to HARP as a stray and got some extra TLC from our friends at The Dog Stop. This little lady was looking fabulous after her makeover, and it didn’t take long for her to find a forever home! 🎉

We couldn’t be happier that Consultant’s shelter stay ended with a fresh look and an even brighter future. A huge thank-you to the team at The Dog Stop for helping our pups look and feel their best while they wait for their happily ever after.

Happy tails, Consultant! Enjoy your next chapter. 💙
