Need a feel-good story? ❤️🐾

Did you know a big part of animal rescue is helping animals find homes outside our area? Dogs and cats are sometimes transported to parts of the country where there are fewer homeless animals and higher adoption rates. That’s our dream scenario — that one day the same will be true here.

Most of the time, once they leave, we never get to see how their story ends.

But we just got the BEST surprise.

A woman came across our page and spotted a photo of a dog one of our volunteers was walking during Walking Club. She immediately thought he looked like the dog she had adopted and reached out to us.

And really… those big ears were a pretty good giveaway! 😂❤️

We did a little research and, sure enough, her beloved Duke was Forest, a stray who was rescued by Harris County Animal Control.

And Forest (Duke) had made it all the way to New York!

She sent us so many wonderful pictures and told us how incredibly loved he is and how he changed their lives.

A shout out to Harris County Animal Control and everyone involved in making these crucial transports happen. And thank you for adopting!

🎉 400 wasn’t the finish line! 🐾 🐈🐈‍⬛

Next Stepp Animal Rescue has just committed another $3,500 to fund 100 more Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) surgeries in partnership with Harris County Animal Control!

That brings our commitment to 500 TNR surgeries and $17,500 invested in helping humanely reduce the feral cat population in Harris County.

Why does TNR matter? One unspayed female cat can have multiple litters each year, and those kittens can begin having kittens of their own in just a matter of months. The numbers can grow quickly. TNR breaks that cycle humanely—preventing countless unwanted litters and helping stabilize feral cat populations over time.

A huge thank you to our community partners who help us keep this program going.
