⚠️ Snake Season Alert for Pet Owners ⚠️
With all the recent rain, snakes are more likely to be on the move as rising water drives them from their hiding spots. This means an increased risk of encounters with pets, especially during walks, outdoor playtime, and trips to wooded or grassy areas.
🐍 Common Signs of a Snake Bite in Pets:
• Sudden yelp or cry of pain
• Swelling around the bite site (often face, legs, or paws)
• Puncture wounds or bleeding
• Weakness or collapse
• Difficulty breathing
• Excessive drooling
• Vomiting or trembling
🚨 What To Do If Your Pet Is Bitten:
✅ Stay calm and keep your pet as quiet as possible.
✅ Carry your pet if you can to limit movement.
✅ Seek veterinary care immediately—even if you’re unsure whether the snake was venomous.
✅ If safe, take a photo of the snake from a distance for identification.
❌ Do NOT:
• Apply a tourniquet
• Cut the wound or try to suck out venom
• Apply ice or heat
• Delay seeking veterinary treatment
The sooner treatment is started, the better the outcome for your pet. If you suspect a snake bite, contact your veterinarian or emergency veterinary hospital right away.
