Our next Rescue Spotlight shines on Smoky Mountain Exotics Rescue and Rehabilitation in Tennessee.

Smoky Mtn Exotics Rescue and Rehabilitation began as Smoky Mtn Parrot Rescue, built from a lifelong passion for working with exotic animals. With a specialty in birds and small mammals, their founder saw firsthand how many exotic pets needed safe, knowledgeable placement, rehabilitation, and long-term care. As the need quickly grew, so did the mission. Today, they operate Smoky Mtn Parrot Rescue, Smoky Mtn Exotics Rescue and Rehabilitation, and Smoky Mtn Serpent Rescue — three connected rescue efforts dedicated to helping parrots, exotic mammals, reptiles, and domestic snakes throughout the Smoky Mountain region and beyond. Their work focuses on rescue, rehabilitation, education, and responsible placement. Many exotic animals require specialized diets, housing, handling, enrichment, and experienced care, and their goal is to make sure each animal has the best possible chance at a safe, healthy, and permanent home. What started with parrots has grown into a larger mission: helping the exotic animals that often have nowhere else to go, while educating the community about the responsibility, commitment, and compassion these animals deserve.

It is with heavy hearts that we ask our community to come together and support our friends at The Snake Show Company.

They have now shared a GoFundMe after the devastating house fire that took their home, their belongings, and so many of their beloved animals. No one should have to face this kind of loss alone, and right now they need all the love and support they can get.

Big news for our rescue family! 🐟🦎

We are excited to announce that Smoky Mountain Fish Rescue has officially joined our team.

This is a big step forward for us as we continue expanding our outreach and growing the types of animals we are able to help. Aquatic animals are often overlooked, but fish, axolotls, turtles, and other aquatic species deserve proper care, safe placement, education, and rescue support just like any other animal.

By bringing Smoky Mountain Fish Rescue onto our team, we believe we can better serve our community, provide more resources, and continue building a rescue network that helps animals of all kinds.

As always, we run because of community support, volunteers, donations, and people who believe these animals matter.

Not every animal in need has fur or feathers.

At Smoky Mtn Serpent Rescue, we focus on helping domestic snakes and reptiles that need a safe place to land. Some come to us because their owners can no longer care for them. Some need better housing, proper heat, nutrition, or a more experienced home. Others are simply misunderstood because they are snakes.
Our mission is to provide responsible rescue, rehabilitation, education, and rehoming for reptiles in need. We believe snakes deserve the same compassion, respect, and second chances as any other animal.

We also work to educate the public, because fear often comes from misunderstanding. Snakes are not monsters. They are living animals with specific needs, unique behaviors, and an important place in responsible exotic animal care.

When animals are ready for adoption, we make sure they go to homes that understand proper enclosure size, heating, humidity, feeding, safety, and long-term care.

We run through donations, adoption support, and self-funding. Every enclosure, heat source, feeder, substrate, transport, and medical need adds up, and every bit of support helps us continue this work.

Thank you to everyone who supports the overlooked, misunderstood, and cold-blooded.

Smoky Mtn Serpent Rescue

Not every rescue animal has feathers, fur, or big puppy-dog eyes. Some have scales, flickering tongues, and are wildly misunderstood.

At Smoky Mtn Serpent Rescue, we work with domestic snakes in need of safe placement, responsible rehoming, and proper care. Whether someone can no longer keep their snake, needs guidance, or is looking for a responsible adoption option, we are here to help when we can.

Snakes are not “throwaway pets.” They are living animals that deserve correct husbandry, secure enclosures, proper temperatures, species-appropriate diets, and homes that understand their needs.

We also want to help educate the community. Most snakes are not aggressive monsters. They are quiet, fascinating animals that often end up in bad situations because people purchase them without fully understanding their long-term care.

Smoky Mtn Serpent Rescue just hit 100 followers!

We want to say thank you to everyone who has followed, shared, supported, and helped us grow this page.

This rescue may be new, but the mission is already moving forward: helping reptiles in need, providing proper education, assisting with responsible rehoming, and giving snakes and other reptiles a safe place when they need it most.

Every follow, share, comment, adoption inquiry, surrender referral, and bit of support helps us reach more people and more animals.

Due to the expected congestion and traffic from Rod Run, Smoky Mtn Exotics Rescue and Rehabilitation, Smoky Mtn Parrot Rescue, and Smoky Mtn Serpent Rescue will not be doing intakes or adoptions this Friday or Saturday unless it is an emergency situation.

Events like this bring a lot of extra traffic, noise, and general stress, which can be especially hard on the animals in our care. Because of that, our focus during this time will be staying at our facilities and making sure the animals are safe, comfortable, and as calm as possible.

We appreciate your understanding and patience. If you are dealing with an emergency situation, please reach out and we will do our best to help.

Enrichment Tip:

Enrichment for snakes does not have to be complicated. Simple changes like adding branches, hides, leaf litter, textured surfaces, or rearranging the enclosure can encourage natural behaviors like climbing, exploring, burrowing, and investigating their environment.

A bare enclosure may be easy to clean, but a well-set-up habitat helps keep your snake active, stimulated, and more confident. Enrichment is not just extra décor — it is an important part of proper care.

A thriving snake is not just surviving, it is engaging with its environment. 🐍

Yuri is Ready for a Home

We believe Yuri, our juvenile bearded dragon, is ready to find a wonderful home of his own.

He is eating well, including both bugs and salad, and is doing well with handling. Yuri has reached a point where we feel confident beginning the search for a home that can provide him with the proper setup, care, and long-term commitment he deserves.

Anyone interested in adopting should be prepared to discuss their enclosure, lighting, heating, diet, and general care plan to ensure the best possible fit.

Happy Easter from Smoky Mtn Serpent Rescue!

We hope everyone has a safe and peaceful holiday weekend. While Easter is filled with fun traditions, it’s also a good reminder that not every animal given as a “holiday gift” is prepared for the care it truly needs.

Snakes and other reptiles are not starter pets, impulse pets, or seasonal surprises. They require proper heating, lighting, enclosure setup, diet, and long-term commitment. One of the best things we can do for reptiles is make sure they go to educated, prepared homes.

As always, we encourage people to admire animals for what they are, learn before bringing one home, and make responsible choices that put the animal’s wellbeing first.

Thank you to everyone who supports serpent rescue, responsible ownership, and better outcomes for these amazing animals.
