MEET JORDAN & ROBERT — AKA MAMA WHEEKS & DADDY WHEEKS

We share a whole lot about the guinea pigs around here, but not very much about ourselves, so we figured it was probably time for an introduction.

We’re Jordan and Robert, the husband-and-wife team who started Wheeks n’ Squeaks Rescue & Boarding.

We’ve both always been animal people, but somehow our love for our own guinea pigs turned into… all of this.

These days, our lives include rescuing, boarding, fostering, adoption applications, answering guinea pig questions, cleaning cages, doing an unreasonable amount of laundry, and buying enough vegetables that we’re pretty sure the grocery store thinks we own a restaurant.

And we do all of it while still working our regular full-time jobs. Wheeks n’ Squeaks starts before work, picks back up after work, and usually keeps going until we go to bed. There’s always a cage to clean, a medication to give, a message to answer, a boarding pig to check on, or somebody yelling from the other room because the refrigerator opened.

It can be a lot, but we really do love it.

What started with a few guinea pigs has grown into something we never really expected, and we’ve been incredibly lucky to have some amazing people come alongside us and help make it possible. We’ll introduce some of them in another post.

At the end of the day, our goal is pretty simple: give guinea pigs who need us a safe place to land, help them find great homes, and be a resource for guinea pig owners in our community.

🏜️A DESERT DUMPLING IS READY FOR ADOPTION! 🏜️

Meet Kimchi & Toffee, two bonded girls who found each other after a few twists and turns and are now looking for their forever home together!

🏜️ Kimchi is one of our little Desert Dumplings, and she has been through a LOT in her short little life. She was rescued after being found dumped in the desert, came into the rescue with ringworm, recovered, and then sadly lost her cage mate. Eventually, along came Toffee — and Kimchi found herself a new best friend. 💛

Kimchi is a spunky little girl who is slowly learning to relax and enjoy the good life. She’s starting to sleep out in the open, popcorn around her cage, and loves playing with Toffee. She purrs quite a bit while chasing Toffee around, but don’t let her fool you — that’s just part of their sisterly antics. 😂

🍬 Toffee is our BIG snuggle bug — and we mean BIG. 😂 This girl came to us weighing a whopping 1,568 grams, making her the biggest lady we’ve ever had come through the rescue! She has already lost over 100 grams with us, but she still has a little work to do. Her future family will need to be diligent about portions, treats, and keeping her active so she can continue working toward a healthier weight.

Personality-wise, Toffee is about as sweet as they come. She LOVES pets and attention and is perfectly content soaking up all the love you’re willing to give her. She is frightened by children and loud noises, though, so she’ll do best in a quieter, calmer home. When she gets scared, she may put her teeth on you, but she doesn’t bite.

🥬 When it comes to food, these girls know what they like! They’re surprisingly picky veggie eaters — lettuce and carrots are the favorites, with the occasional pepper or broccoli making the cut. But picky or not, breakfast and dinner are VERY important events in this household. 😂

Kimchi & Toffee are a bonded pair and must be adopted together. After everything Kimchi has been through, we’re especially happy to see her settled in with a friend again. 💛

Meet Leo & Max, two bonded boars looking for their forever home together!

Leo is our fluffy, hairy boy who gives us serious Appa from Avatar vibes. He’s a gentle soul who loves taking veggies right from your hand and is usually happy to accept some pets. Move too fast and he may duck for cover, but when breakfast or dinner rolls around, all bets are off — he’ll climb right up the side of the cage to make sure he gets his veggies! If you’re lucky, he might even sneak in a little kiss. 🥹

Max is the shyer half of the duo. He’ll allow some pets every now and then, but he’s still slowly coming out of his shell. Loud noises and quick movements can send him running, but give him a little patience and he’s getting more comfortable.

Together, these boys love running around, purring at each other, and apparently taking turns laying directly on top of the veggies. 😂 They share well, but like most boars, they appreciate having their own space. A nice roomy cage with separate hideys will help keep everyone happy.

We have babies! Told you we ordered the expansion pack with the blind bag feature.

Mama Dolly is doing wonderful. We are so thankful that this is the last litter she will ever have. At almost 3 years old and at least 5th litter, we were prepared for an emergency for her if need. So greatful she is doing well.

Three beautiful pups. One had seemed to take up all the food while inside mom, sitting at a whopping 120g. Leaving their siblings a little on the small side at 74g and 64g. The little ones we will watch closely for the next several hours and will prepare to hand feeding if we need to.

***please note that we will not know/announce the s*x for about 2 weeks. Mis-s*xing too early leads to accidental litters***

We are now awaiting Dolly's older daughters, chonklet, Little Foot and Chipmunk to birth babies or make it to 70days with us and no pups born.

We get asked pretty often, “How do you guys afford all of this?” 😅

The answer is really a little bit of everything — and a whole lot of support from our community. 💛

One of the BIGGEST ways our rescue is funded is through boarding. When you board your guinea pigs with us, the majority of that money goes right back into the rescue. It helps cover vet bills, hay, pellets, medications and all those everyday supplies that disappear way faster than you’d think. 😂

More importantly, boarding gives us the ability to say yes when a large group of piggies suddenly needs somewhere to go, or when someone in the community finds themselves with a medical situation they weren’t prepared for and needs some help getting their piggy taken care of.

Nail trims help too! We definitely aren’t getting rich $10 at a time 😂, but it adds up. Sometimes it fills the gas tank, buys a bag of pellets or covers some much-needed supplies.

Something else that helps us A LOT is gently used supplies. We receive quite a few donations from families after their guinea pigs have passed away, and we’re incredibly grateful that they choose to pass those supplies along to piggies who can still use them. 💛

Cages, hides, food bowls, water bottles, carriers and other supplies may seem like small things, but they make a huge difference. Because so many of these items are donated, we don’t have to constantly buy them ourselves, which means more of our funds can go toward things like medical care, food and taking in the next piggy who needs us.

Our adoption and surrender fees also go right back into helping that piggy or the next one who comes through our doors, along with monetary donations and supplies sent through our donation links.

There isn’t some big funding source behind the scenes. It really is our community keeping this going.

Whether you board your piggies with us, come by for a nail trim, adopt, donate, send something from our wish list, or simply pass along supplies your piggies no longer need — you’re helping us be able to say “yes” to the next piggy who needs us. 🐹💛

Well… we added 10 more little faces to the Wheeks n’ Squeaks family. 😅🐹

Our newest intake is a group of 10 guinea pigs — 4 females and 6 males — who were all living together before coming to us.

And yes… all together means exactly what you’re thinking. 😬

For now, all four girls are being presumed pregnant. Mom and Dad have already produced 8 pups, which is a pretty good example of just how quickly “a couple of guinea pigs” can turn into a whole lot of guinea pigs.

This is also our friendly reminder that male and female guinea pigs need to be kept completely separate unless they have been appropriately spayed/neutered. Accidental litters happen FAST, and what starts as a manageable situation can become overwhelming before you know it.

We’re always happy to help when we can, and we’re glad these guys made their way to us — but rescues simply can’t take every accidental litter that happens. 💛

The good news is that everybody is doing well! They came to us with lice and are currently finishing their last round of treatment. Once that’s complete, we’ll give everyone one final thorough look-over.

The 6 boys should be ready for adoption in about two weeks!

The ladies will be hanging out with us quite a bit longer. Since we have to assume pregnancy, they’ll be on pregnancy watch for at least another 45 days, plus additional time for weaning.

So for now, we’re just putting out some feelers!

Henry previously lived with a senior guinea pig, and the two shared their lives together until his buddy sadly passed away. Now Henry is ready for his next chapter — and he's hoping it includes a new piggy friend. 🥹🐹

Our hearts are broken and at peace all in one.

Today we helped our Sanctuary piggy Lady Beatrice over the rainbow bridge 🌈.

She came to us back in April at the young age of 9.5 years old. 😲 She had just recently lost her cagemate and was scheduled to be boarded with us while her humans were out of the country. Knowing her age, we arranged for her to stay with us through her golden months. She became fast friends with rescue piggy Louise and enjoyed many of days watching all the rescue chaos from our dining room table.

On Tuesday Lady B wasnt able to stand and hadnt moved much from the night before. We knew that even with pain meds it was time to help her. Lady B loved hay and often fell asleep in the hay. She loved drinking water and would fight her way to get fresh water every time we refilled. She loved soft plush hides. And she loved her pellets. Once she no longer was able to get up the fight to do all her favorite things, we knew.

Sweet Lady B, I'm going to miss you so much. Your sweet licks and those bigs eyes begging for more snacks, your spicy attitude and curious wheeks. Our dinning room table will never be the same without you. Our hearts will always ache for you. Love you Lady Beatrice.
