Meet Lucki.
On Friday, when Phoenix reached a scorching 108°F, a tiny guinea pig was found abandoned near a dumpster at an apartment complex.
Alone. Frightened. Left to face the Arizona heat with nowhere to go.
We named her Lucki—not because what happened to her was lucky, but because someone cared enough to stop, notice her, and make a call.
We're incredibly grateful to the person who found her and to everyone in our community who knows that guinea pigs are not wild animals and cannot survive on their own. Because someone spoke up, Lucki is now safe, cool, and receiving the care she deserves.
It's hard not to wonder how she ended up there. It's hard not to imagine how scared she must have been. And if we're being honest, our hearts are also carrying another worry tonight: we hope Lucki was alone. We hope she didn't have a friend who wasn't found.
For now, we're choosing to focus on the positive. Lucki is safe. She's no longer sitting beside a dumpster in 108-degree heat. She's surrounded by people who care.
If you ever find a guinea pig, rabbit, or other small animal that appears abandoned, please don't assume someone else will help. Reach out. Make the call. There are rescues, fosters, and animal lovers ready to step in.
Friday could have ended very differently for this little girl. Instead, because someone cared enough to act, she has a second chance.
Today, Lucki reminded us just how special this community is.
