Babesiosis is the third most common pathogen found in blacklegged ticks submitted to our lab. Since Babesiosis symptoms are similar to other tickborne illnesses but it is not treated in the same way as Lyme disease or Anaplasmosis with antibiotics, tick testing provides a valuable tool in identifying possible exposure. This week is National Dog Bite Prevention Week, so AVMA President Dr. Michael Bailey hopes children and adults will take steps to prevent dog bites this week and beyond — for the good of both people and pets.
