Our playtime was rudely interrupted 🤣 but Rolo plays very gently and only if you play with him.

Rolo update & some common questions answered:

Photos are from right before Rolo had his bandages replaced yesterday. The doctor said his wrists are looking more normal in position but they are unsure if an improvement in his carpal extension will be enough to provide him with a good long term outcome. Surgical intervention may be an option when he is older/bigger.

I saw many comments on a photo from the other day about Rolo growing and looking bigger, but he's actually still under 3 pounds.

There have also been comments about him being in pain and always looking sad. All of the vets who have examined Rolo have agreed that he is not in any pain. And as for him looking sad, it's just his face and how he always looks. I personally don't think he is sad at all, he's just a very calm and chill little guy who loves cuddles (especially nuzzling into my neck/hair).

I know it's hard for some people to see him still in his kennel, but there are two main reasons for this. First, he doesn't always p**p in his litter box and his p**ps are thick and sticky and make quite the mess. I have a lot of other kittens here, including two paralyzed babies who drag their back half, so he can't be out 24/7 until he's able to use the litter box 100% of the time. And second, and most importantly, while he has his front legs splinted, he is supposed to be on cage rest with very limited exercise.

Lottie had her sedated oropharyngeal exam yesterday and while no polyps were found, she had a LOT of foreign material flushed from her nasal cavity. The doctor said it was the most he's seen. We are crossing fingers that this is the main reason for her being symptomatic for so long, but only time will tell.

We have also decided to start her on a low dose of fluoxetine (prozac) because she is still eating things she shouldn't be, so fingers crossed that helps too!

Siri 🩷 My little soft palate cleftie is doing really, really, good. The first week she was with me was incredibly difficult and frustrating, but we made it through and I'm happy to report that Siri is now eating well and gaining weight — she's an entirely different kitten than the one who arrived 3 weeks ago.

She does still have some sneezing when eating, and she will likely be prone to URIs for life, but I'm so glad she and I were able to figure out what works and move her far away from deaths doorstep. I plan to experiment with different food to see if there's an even better option for her, but for now she's in a really good place.
