Learn how to be The Puppy Whisperer and bring out the best in your furry friend! I have been involved in the Pet Industry for over 20 years, many of those spent partnering and developing a large animal rescue specializing in hard to adopt dogs. The trenches of rescue offer an infinite amount of wisdom when it comes to training and behavior modification as half of all dogs surrendered are due to behavioral issues. I am also a certified AKC CGC, AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy, CGC, AKC Community Canine, Urban CGC, Video Home Manners and Trick Dog Evaluator. My unique approach includes a system that has been developed through years of research and personal experience. As a trainer, my belief is that training dogs should be fun and innovative so that all involved in the process experience the benefits! My training system adapts to your dog’s personality and teaches you and your family how to “think like your dog.”

Your dog is an individual and should be trained using methods that are most effective for that personality! Over the years, I have been dubbed “The Puppy Whisperer” and can teach you how to speak their language too!

This is the part we LOVE. 🥹❤️
Maple has finished her training this week...

and this little girl is **HOME with her family.**

Maple came to us as an 8-week-old Mini Goldendoodle with a really lovely, stable temperament.

She's what we'd call a very "middle" puppy.

Not overly pushy.

Not highly fearful.

Not constantly demanding attention.

She did need a little confidence building because she tends toward being submissive, but she settled into our home incredibly easily and quickly fell into the routine.

And that's exactly what we want.

Over her time here, Maple has been learning that life has a rhythm.

There are times we play.

There are times we train.

There are times we go outside.

There are times exciting things happen.

And there are also times...

**we just settle.**

No constant entertainment required.

No chaos required.

Just living successfully alongside people. ❤️

Now she's wrapping up her training and getting ready for the best part:

**Going home. 🏡**

Her family isn't starting from Day One.

They're getting a puppy who has already experienced structure, expectations, routine and training — and now they'll continue building on that foundation.

THIS is why we love Puppy Stay & Train.

We don't expect puppies to leave here "finished."

They're babies.

But we can make those first weeks at home a whole lot easier.

Winnie doesn't need us to make him "listen."

He needs us to help him learn how to **settle.**

And there's a big difference.

Winnie is an 8-week-old Mini Labradoodle who came to us very vocal, needy and attention-seeking.

He can be pushy about what he wants...

but underneath that is an insecure puppy who hasn't yet learned how to regulate himself when he's uncomfortable, frustrated or wants something.

So our first priority isn't piling on commands.

It's teaching his nervous system:

**You are okay. You don't need to react to everything.**

That means working on things like:

🐾 Settling without constant attention
🐾 Tolerating small amounts of frustration
🐾 Learning that vocalizing doesn't make people immediately appear
🐾 Creating predictable routines
🐾 Encouraging independence
🐾 Rewarding calm instead of demanding behavior
🐾 Giving him appropriate opportunities to rest

He's making progress. ❤️

But this kind of training can be slow.

And that's okay.

We're not looking for a puppy who simply appears obedient because he's being constantly managed.

We want Winnie to actually **learn how to come down, settle and feel comfortable doing it.**

That's a skill he'll use for the rest of his life.

Sometimes puppy training looks like sit, down and recall.

And sometimes the most important lesson of the day is simply...

**Nothing is happening right now — and I'm okay.**

Want to know why we offer **Perfect Puppy Match?**

Look at the puppies currently training with us.

Several are Mini Goldendoodles.

Their temperaments?

**Completely different.**

One walked in confident, stable and ready to take on the world.

One needed some gentle confidence building.

Another was genuinely fearful of unfamiliar people and situations and needed us to shift the focus of his training.

Same general type of dog.

Very different puppies.

And THAT is why choosing a puppy based only on:

❌ Gender
❌ The cutest picture
❌ "This one came running to me!"
❌ Which puppy is left
..can be a mistake.

When we temperament assess a litter, we're looking deeper.

How does this puppy respond to something unfamiliar?

How quickly do they recover?

Are they confident? Cautious? Independent? People-focused?

What happens when they're frustrated?

Do they seek reassurance?

Can they settle?

Are they environmentally sensitive?

There isn't one "best" temperament.

This is Archie.

He's 8 weeks old.

And by **Day 3**, he was already figuring out one of our favorite rules:

**Relaxation gets attention.** 🙌

Archie is a confident, stable, happy little Mini Goldendoodle who settled into our home and routine incredibly easily.

And THAT matters.

People sometimes assume an 8-week-old puppy is basically a complete blank slate.

But that isn't entirely true...

Puppies arrive with their own temperaments.

Archie walked in comfortable with people, curious about his environment and able to settle without needing constant reassurance.

Now our job is to build on that great foundation.

We're teaching him that:

🐾 Calm behavior works
🐾 Four paws on the floor gets attention
🐾 The crate is a place to rest
🐾 People don't need to entertain you constantly
🐾 You can watch life happening without joining every single thing 😂
🐾 Relaxation is a skill

At just 8 weeks old, Archie is already catching on.

This is why we talk SO much about temperament.

Training matters tremendously.

But **the puppy you start with matters too.**

And Archie is giving us a really beautiful foundation to work with. 💙

Sometimes the training plan has to change.

Meet Mulligan. 💙

Mulligan is a 4-month-old Mini Goldendoodle who came to us for training, and initially we expected to work on all the usual puppy things.

But once we got to know him, something became pretty clear:

**Mulligan didn't need more obedience first. He needed confidence.**

He was shy and fearful around new people and unsure in new situations.

So we switched gears.

🐾 New environments
🐾 New people without pressure
🐾 Learning to investigate instead of retreat
🐾 Building independence
🐾 Lots of successful little experiences
🐾 Learning that new doesn't automatically mean scary

And Mulligan is doing SO well. ❤️

This is why we don't believe in putting every puppy through an identical training program.

**We train the puppy in front of us.**

Sometimes the most important thing we can teach isn't a command at all.

It's:

*"You've got this."*

And Mulligan is starting to believe it. 🥹

Biting your pants.
Stealing your shoes.
Peeing on the floor.
Jumping on the kids.
Running away when you call.
Sounds like a naughty puppy, right?

Not exactly. 🐶

Your puppy simply hasn't learned what you WANT them to do yet. Expectations and manners haven't been set yet!

Instead of:

❌ “Stop jumping!”

Teach: **Relax when you want attention.**

Instead of:

❌ “Stop biting!”

Teach: **What CAN I put my mouth on?**

Routines are changing.
