Bear and Ray are both hard at work in our board and train and day school programs, and their morning session's focus was leash skills and reactivity.

For both of these dogs, the goal isn’t just “don’t react.”

It’s learning how to move through the world calmly, confidently, and with clear expectations.

That means: • Building loose-leash walking skills
• Practicing neutrality around distractions
• Learning how to recover faster when something does catch their attention
• Reinforcing calm decision-making instead of big reactions

Progress with reactivity doesn’t come from avoiding triggers or correcting behavior after the fact - it comes from structured practice, consistency, and clear communication.

Bear and Ray are putting in that work, step by step, and it shows.

Proud of these two and the focus they’re bringing to each session.

Chester & Angus 🐾

Our longest-standing daycare duo — with us since the very beginning.

Today they’re getting in some focused training as part of their daycare day, because around here, daycare isn’t just about burning energy. It’s about reinforcing good manners, maintaining the training they’ve already worked hard on, and practicing calm, appropriate social skills in a way that actually sticks.

No chaos.

No bad habits being rehearsed.

Just structure, guidance, and positive socialization that supports the whole dog.

We’re grateful for families who’ve trusted us from day one — and dogs like Chester & Angus who show what consistency really looks like 💙

🐾 3 Puppy Training Tips (And Where Most Families Go Wrong) 👇

Raising a great dog doesn’t happen by accident.
It happens by design.

Here’s what actually works:
⬇️⬇️⬇️

✅ 1️⃣ Structure Before Freedom

Puppies need rules before roaming. Crate. Leash. Routine.
❌ Mistake: “He’s just a baby.”
➡️ Turns into jumping, biting, chaos.

✅ 2️⃣ Train Daily (Not Occasionally)

3–5 mini sessions. 2–5 minutes each. Every day.
❌ Mistake: “We’ll train this weekend.”
➡️ Dog only listens at home… sometimes.

✅ 3️⃣ Teach Calm, Not Just Commands

Reward rest. Enforce naps. Practice doing nothing.
❌ Mistake: Constant stimulation.
➡️ Creates hyper, mouthy, unfocused dogs.

🚨 Biggest Mistake of All:

Training only when life is quiet.
Real life isn’t quiet.

Your training shouldn’t be either.

📌 Remember This: Structure + Repetition + Rest = Great Dogs

Save this.

Share it with a new puppy parent.

Your future self will thank you.

🐾 Playtime Perfection! 🐶💕

Daycare dog Eden and our Boarding and Training pup Betty enjoyed some great playtime together! We love seeing dogs build confidence, practice appropriate play, and have fun in a safe, structured environment.

Positive social interactions like this help our dogs learn communication skills, burn energy, and just enjoy being dogs 🐕✨

Great job, Eden and Betty! 💙

It’s Friday at Best Paw Forward Dog Training, and we’re wrapping up the week the best way we know how—puppy playtime! 🐾🎉

Today’s play crew includes Betty, Poppy, and Lucy, and they had an absolute blast together. After a week of learning, practicing, and building good habits, these pups got to end the day with some fun, safe, and supervised playtime. This helps build confidence, social skills, and positive interactions—all while burning off some energy before the weekend.

Have a great weekend!🐾

Our Story

Best Paw Forward was founded by husband and wife team, Michael and Jamie Badial, after years of working with hard to adopt rescue dogs in both our own rescue for aggressive dogs as well as with other local rescues.

Having both grown up with an innate love of dogs, we are able to help owners understand why their dog does certain things and effectively communicate with their dog about what they should do.

While working with dogs each day brings us so much happiness, our real joy comes from restoring peace and harmony to the home and helping owners to live with their dog the way they had always imagined.
