The face of a dog whose going to beat parvo 💛
We got a LOT of negative comments about us still adopting dogs out with parvo in the building so I wanted to clear up some misconceptions.
TAPS regularly has parvo in the building. Did you know we are one of the rare facilities that actually transfers in parvo positive dogs? The reason we do this is because the people that support TAPS are absolutely incredible human beings. With their support, TAPS has the resources to treat and care for parvo pups. The alternative if TAPS does not take them in is the animals are euthanized.
Stopping adoptions completely whenever parvo is present would kill hundreds of dogs waiting for an open kennel at TAPS.
Because TAPS is so wonderful (maybe I’m bias) the staff has worked so hard with so many amazing veterinarians to ensure a safe protocol so both things can be true: adopting out dogs and treating parvo dogs simultaneously.
Now….we got a transport of puppies in on Thursday. They all came to our shelter UNKNOWINGLY having Parvo. We were NOT prepared to end up having 14 positive parvo pups. Does that mean all our dogs have been exposed and are at risk??? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!
If anyone would ever like a tour of our facility or would like to get more involved with our facility - we are ALWAYS open to tours, educating on protocols, etc. and you’ll see why it is SAFE to still adopt out vaccinated dogs.
Since we weren’t prepared for the large quantity of Parvo dogs from Thursday- our staff is EXHAUSTED and working extra hours to ensure everyone is taken care of. I wanted to take some burden off my wonderful staff by emptying the kennels of healthy adoptable dogs so they had a little more time to focus on the sick dogs. Sick dogs require more one on one care.
I hope this clears up the confusion for the angry commenters. Our goal is ALWAYS to support our animals and adopters!
