"The In Between"
This is Rico. 😍 He showed up to our sunrise session at Cheesman Park's pavilion in Denver and immediately leaned his whole body into me like we'd known each other for years. That's Malinois magic right there.

Rico was off-leash, totally in his element, and worked those columns like he owned the place. He also got to play bite-the-sheepie between takes, which he considered the highlight of the morning. 😂

“Reservoir Dogs”
Some dogs see cold water and think twice. Churro is not some dogs. 😄 We may have packed for summer and arrived to 40 degrees and snow flurries, but this golden had a reservoir full of sticks to retrieve and absolutely nothing was going to stop him. Pure joy, zero hesitation. This is exactly why I love photographing dogs outside their living rooms -- you never know what kind of magic they'll bring to the moment!

And now for something completely different... no dog, nothing in sharp focus. 🙈

We were camping this week and I played around with zoom-bursting, slowly spinning the lens barrel during the exposure, and ended up with this watery mountain abstract. Not my usual vibe, but honestly? I find it kind of soothing.

Even when I don't have my dogs in front of my lens, I can't stop making pictures. 📸🌄

We moved to Colorado in 2007 and Red Rocks immediately stole our hearts. Concerts, cocktails, and that hike in from the bottom that we pretend isn't as hard as it is. 😅

This place has been part of our story ever since, so when I had the chance to shoot here at sunrise with the adorable boxer Magnolia, I was up at 4am without hesitation. She was completely captivated by everything around her: the birds, the early morning energy, the sheer magic of the place. Same, girl, same. Some locations just do that to you, and Red Rocks is one of them. 🐾

Introducing The Creative Collective. 🐾

I've just launched an application-only model program for dogs and the humans who are a little obsessed with them, and I'm looking for dogs of all shapes, sizes, and chaos levels to fill my roster.

Already submitted to one of my model calls in the past? Please apply again, the Creative Collective is a brand new database and a completely fresh process. Previous submissions won't carry over.

Here's how it works: I come with a fully realized creative concept. You bring your dog. If selected, you'll receive a complimentary creative session, one signature digital image, and a $100 credit toward printed artwork. We wrap up with a personal gallery reveal over Zoom, and if you love what you see, you'll have the opportunity to invest in artwork for your home.

I have a full season of creative work ahead, including a new dog-centric challenge kicking off now that'll need dog sporting events, dog-based businesses, and at least one human willing to be photographed alongside their dog. If any of that sounds like you, mention it in your application.

And yes, there's a book in the works. EEEK. Self-published. The dogs narrate. I need purebreds. Get on my radar.

This is exactly why I love action photography. That split second where she launches off the dock and snatches the toy clean out of the air? A fast shutter freezes what your eye struggles to catch in real time. 📸

This is Scout and Josephine, and they absolutely delivered. We had a narrow window of light, a vision, and twenty minutes to pull it off — and I think it worked. This is exactly the kind of session I live for: an unassuming (but versatile!) location, cooperative light, and a dog who clearly knows his angles.

This one was for a photography challenge, and the brief was portrait of a stranger with a prop. 😂

Meet Blue. (I just did!) Blue and her mom answered my model call last week, and when the original slot filled up I thought — wait, they're strangers. So I asked if they'd show up to a location I picked, with zero context, and just… trust me. And she said yes! LOL. When we connected I pitched the retro-headband-and-pickleball idea and she didn't even flinch. Blue held that paddle like she’s been waiting her whole life for someone to ask, and her mom nailed the “sporty fierce” expression I asked for.

I'm usually very true to color in my edits, but this one called for something different — so I went full vintage, which was equal parts fun and rabbit hole. 🐰🕳️🤪

Turns out stepping off script every once in a while is good for the soul. And possibly the feed. BTS 👇🏻

I have a fun photo idea brewing, and I need just the right dog to make it happen!

Picture this: a distinguished pup, umbrella handle in mouth, looking completely unbothered by the rain. Very "I've got this handled" energy. Very chic. Very iconic.

Here's what I'm looking for:
A dog who genuinely loves to hold things, or at the very least, can do so without giving me the side-eye 😂 The prop is a classic J-shaped umbrella handle. Your dog would grip it near the base of the J, holding it upright so the straight part rests lightly against one cheek, and the curved tip tucks underneath, potentially touching the other side of the mouth or cheek. It's a bit of an embrace. 😉 Some dogs won't bat an eye; others might find it a little claustrophobic. Only you know your pup! No heavy lifting required though, literally. The owner will hold the actual umbrella canopy above the dog while I work my compositing magic in post. Your pup just needs to nail the handle.

We might get a little fancy with a spritz bottle for some atmospheric drips, and I may wet the ground around your dog to really sell the rainy-day story. Don't worry, it'll be more "glamorous puddle" than "soggy mess." ✨

My preference is a solid-colored dog, but honestly? This is a specific skill I'm casting for, so if your dog is a champion holder of things, I want to hear from you regardless of coat pattern or breed.

⏰ Time is of the essence! This session must take place on or before Saturday, April 11 in Parker, CO, so please let me know if you're available.
