One hour before this session, it was POURING. The kind of rain where most people start drafting the “let’s reschedule” text.

But I had a hunch. Storms like that often leave the most spectacular skies behind them, so I told my client I wanted to go for it. And she trusted me, no hesitation.

Omigosh, am I glad she did. Orange, gold, rose, all of it, rolling across the sky like Colorado was showing off.

This is Stella, a therapy dog in training, and she was a total pro. Paws up for a handshake, eyes locked on the ball, and one glorious solo sprint that made me squeal behind the camera.

These are from my So Long to Summer silhouette sessions, and this one will always stand out. To Stella’s mom (Erin!): thank you for trusting me when the forecast said otherwise. 🧡

(And yes, Stella was safely on leash the whole time. Photoshop and I are very close friends.)

"Sunless but Still Golden"
Who needs sunshine when you live with two golden retrievers? ☀️🐕

The sky was completely gray, but Queso and Churro brought all the warmth themselves, tearing through the fall color like it was the best day of their lives. (To be fair, they think every day is the best day of their lives.) 🍂

That big goofy grin, that ball-obsessed side-eye… this is exactly the kind of personality I love capturing.

“Ready to Roll”
You HAVE to be kidding me. 🥹🥰

Five dogs. One vintage Bronco. Possibly the coolest squad in Parker.

When this challenge called for three or more pups, I did what any reasonable person does: asked The Dog Farm to let me photograph their whole crew. Their driveway is ahhhmazing and feels like home the second you pull in, and their vintage yellow Bronco (aka Daisy) is more like family than transportation.

Even with dogs this well trained, wrangling five is A LOT. 😅 Daisy earned her keep twice over: she made the image more meaningful to her people & she gave me somewhere to contain the chaos. Even with the “corral” there were still a couple of dramatic bailouts mid shoot. LOL. …those redheads I tell ya… they’re SPICY. 😂

“Sleep Number”
This one's been on my "WannaTry" list for years. 🐾 It's usually done with pillows, but I have a serious dog bed problem: if there's a cozy one at Costco, it's coming home with us. 😅 And when the dogs ignore them, I purchase more structured/functional ones. And outdoor ones. And travel beds. It’s ridiculous. So for this image, I just grabbed what we already had lying around the house. (Would you believe I restrained myself and left out three beds? Because, you know, that would be “too much”. LOL.)

As usual, Queso and Churro were troopers for my shenanigans. I loved the final shot so much I printed and framed it, it's hanging above our bed at our place in the mountains right now.

Is anyone else dog-bed-obsessed??

"Sheepish Impersonations"
When your dogs agree to a costume change... sort of. 😂

This week's challenge was all about Humor, so Churro and Queso volunteered (well, tolerated) a face swap with a couple of bighorn rams. Queso leaned into it like a total pro. Churro was a lot less convinced.

So long to summer, hello to a little taster 🍉

Ever wondered what it's like to work with me, without diving into a full custom session? I'm opening THREE spots for Limited Edition "So Long to Summer" sessions this September, and they're exactly that: a taster.

I have the concept and the location, so you just show up with your dog (or dogs, bring the whole crew if that's your life). We'll start with a summer snack and I'll capture all the tongue-out, happy-mess magic.

Then we'll walk to my favorite silhouette spot for sunset, to capture your dog solo or both of you together, whatever feels right. Running, jumping, a round of tug, or a quiet moment forehead to nose, we'll let it take shape naturally against the Colorado evening sky.

This one comes in at $95 instead of my usual $195. Same effort, same eye, just a pre-set idea instead of one we craft together from scratch. (Artwork is ordered separately afterward, more on that when you reach out!)

"Bone Appétrail"
The things Queso & Churro put up with for a photo. 😅🦴

This week's setup was a literal trail of biscuits leading straight to Queso's face, and let me tell you, the patience these two showed waiting their turn deserves its own award. (There was drool. So much drool. 💦😂)

“Pixar Puppy”
Churro picked up a hotspot while we were camping last weekend (swimming plus Nebraska humidity turned out to be a bad combo). We caught it early, so a few days in the cone should do the trick, and honestly, he's been such a good sport about it. Every time I take it off to let him breathe (with close supervision) and it's time to put it back on, he just offers his head right through the opening like it's no big deal. Meanwhile I couldn't resist sneaking in a little photo opp along the way. 😂 Healing vibes for our boy, he'll be back to his usual antics soon. 💛

"Melon Muzzle"
There's nothing more summer than a lake, a camper, and golden retrievers losing their minds over watermelon. 🍉 Churro inhaled his slice in about two seconds flat, zero chill whatsoever. Queso, ever the gentleman, took his time and still managed to look like a snack thief extraordinaire. Peak Golden Retriever Summer Energy right here.

“Golden Totem”
We upsized into a condo about three times the size of our old one, and somehow it still feels tiny. 😅 When it came time to create wall art for the new place, I asked for Queso & Churro’s help to create something visually squishy. After all, they are our resident door blockers & speedbumps, regardless of how much space we have. 🐾

I always encourage my clients to order wall art so their dog's face gets to live somewhere better than a phone screen, and this is an example of me eating my own dog food. 😂 Practice what you preach, dog version, bwahahahaha.

Tag someone whose dog also blocks doorways and deserves to be on a wall for it.
