Only a few more years until our friends at J.M. Capriola celebrate their 100-year anniversary! From the ✨Nevada Horse Archive✨, check out these photos from 1940, taken by the Farm Security Administration. From their little corner shop in downtown Elko, Capriola's has been outfitting everyone from cowboys to city slickers since 1929. They carry a huge selection of Western wear and decor, but the family-owned business is best known for the leather products they make by hand.

Want to know more about this iconic Nevada company? ⬇️ Check the comments for an article we wrote about Capriola's a few years back.

Sooner or later, everyone hauling a horse has an Oh S**t moment. 😬

At Hotties Who Haul, we’ll talk through roadside emergencies, learn what belongs in your Oh S**t Kit, get hands-on with tires and trailer equipment, and practice the skills that can help you stay calm and make good decisions when something does go wrong (because it inevitably will).

Picture this: We wake up for coffee and breakfast, put on some layers for warmth, saddle up, and head out on the trail. The air is crisp, the aspens are shimmering with gold and red, the trail is littered with fallen leaves. We sip hot cocoa from a flask and try to take photos while wearing gloves. We ride until our toes are frozen and then head back to camp to eat and warm up around a fire.

Sound magical? Let's do it! There are still some spots for our Great Basin Fall Colors Getaway, October 15-19. Learn more and register: https://buff.ly/dtmS3to

From this week's ✨Nevada Horse Archive✨, we remember the golden age of land management when horses were a critical part of the job. This 1940 photo shows U.S. Forest Service ranger James J. McNutt working in the Spring Mountains outside Las Vegas, in what was called the Nevada National Forest at the time. That is Charleston Peak in the background.

In the early 1900s, rangers were required to bring their own horses or mules to work! Back then, almost every Forest Service district had a stock program. Now, only a handful do.

Nevada Horse Trails wouldn’t exist without public lands.

Wide open spaces are a huge part of what makes Nevada such a special place to explore on horseback. You don't need to pay and you don't need to ask permission. You can just go. Ride for days, cross tall mountains and wide valleys, camp under the stars. Wander and roam. That is true freedom.

On this National Public Lands Day, we’re celebrating the millions of acres that make horseback adventures possible and remembering our responsibility to preserve and protect them.

Where exactly are we riding during the Great Basin Fall Color Getaway next month? Well, that all depends on how the colors shape up! 🍂 😁 We'll make the final decision on which trails when it gets a little closer, but we know for sure we'll be riding near Great Basin National Park, in the Schell Creek Range northeast of Ely and around the Ward Charcoal Ovens State Park. If you're up for the adventure and ready to camp, then you should join us. Only a few spots left! https://buff.ly/kUkDNM5
