Why Is No One Willing to Give Henry a Chance?
This is Henry.
Henry has now had three fosters and one adopter back out because he needs help with potty training.
Not because he is aggressive.
Not because he bites.
Not because he isn't social with other dogs.
Not because he is a large breed.
Not because he is timid with strangers.
Simply because he isn't already fully trained.
Henry was found abandoned, living on the streets. We don't know what his life looked like before rescue. We don't know if anyone ever taught him where to potty, how to live inside a home, or what it means to be part of a family.
What we do know is that Henry is one of the sweetest little dogs you'll ever meet. He loves people. He is friendly, affectionate, and happy to be around humans despite everything he has endured.
Yet somehow, a little guidance with potty training has become the reason no one is willing to help him.
The reality is that rescue dogs are not perfect. Many come from neglect, abandonment, or life on the streets. They often need patience, consistency, and training. Potty training can be taught. Leash skills can be taught. Confidence can be built.
What cannot be taught is the loving heart Henry already has.
We often hear people say they want to rescue, but they want a dog who is already perfectly potty trained, perfectly behaved, and requires no work. That is rarely the reality of rescue.
If we only rescue dogs that arrive fully trained, what happens to the dogs like Henry? The ones who simply need someone willing to invest a little time, patience, and understanding?
Henry doesn't need a perfect person. He just needs someone willing to give him a chance.
He's small. He's loving. He's social. He's deserving.
A dog can learn where to potty in a few weeks. A loving heart like Henry's is much harder to find.
Henry is currently in Palm Desert, California, but adopters and fosters throughout Southern California are welcome to apply.
He still urgently needs a foster. We are doing everything we can to keep him out of boarding, but we cannot do it alone.
