Four beautiful new Scentwork grads! These teams came in and started from scratch in the intro class. The progress they have made in their foundations, searches, and alerts is truly incredible! I can't wait to see these teams trial and continue with their training. They are going to go SO far!

My Level 3 Obedience/CGCA/CGCU class had week 3 this week. Each week, we head to a different location and take our "public access" skills into the real world. Today, our focus was FOOD DISTRACTIONS!

These teams are doing fabulously! Most of them have taken my classes before and I have had the absolute pleasure of getting to watch them grow as individuals and as teams.

Xeno the Dobe is such an incredible ambassador for his breed. He is equal parts serious and silly, and the most LOVING boy you could imagine! He is such an impressive, imposing male- and he gives the best smooches!

Lettie the Redbone Coonhound is an absolute delight. I met her when she was a recent rescue with her mom, and WOW has this girl come out of her shell! She is social, happy, and one of the hardest working scenthounds I have had the pleasure of meeting.

Arnold the Airedale is a newer addition to my classes and I am OBSESSED with him. He has that spunky terrier temperament down, but he's also a BIG marshmallow. I've always wanting a working Airedale and if Arnold ever goes missing, don't check my house.... ;)

Kenzie the Husky has taken many of my classes over the years. From conformation to basic obedience and now through the harder levels, he is a true working dog through and through. He LIVES to work, to run, and he has the soul of the best therapy dog you could imagine!

Pascal the Mini Poodle has come SOOOO far! He's worked with me one on one since he was a puppy, and has taken plenty of classes with me. I've been able to watch him grow into a sassy, goofy, playful boy (that is sometimes a butt) but that's ok. He tells it like it is and we love him for it.

Dapper the Standard Poodle is one of the silliest boys I have ever met, and gorgeous to boot! He loves nothing more than to meet as many people as he can and be petted by as many hands as possible. His mom Katie does an amazing job reeling in that boy brain and getting him to be the true, utilitarian dog he is!

Fig the Brittany is in her first ever class with me, and she is SUCH a cool dog! She's a hard worker with a fantastic foundation, and LOVES to show off that genetic birdy brain. My favorite thing today was getting to see her point- she is so totally connected to her roots!

Zeke the Lab has also taken classes with me since he was a baby. He is a big, beautiful boy who is coming into himself... and adolescence is HARD! His mom Tena is doing an amazing job learning to control and channel those young, intact male hormones- which is no easy task.

Finally, Kino the Dobe (not pictured) cannot be ignored. He is the most beautiful Red boy! I LOVE when Kino is in my classes. He brings some much needed down-to-earth attitude and happy working ability. He would do ANYTHING for his mom, and their relationship is top notch.

If you read all of this, thank you. I firmly believe that the foundation for obedience and behavior in dogs is relationship- and these teams have such incredible relationships with their dogs. It makes my job easy!!!

Excellent job, everyone. I am so, so proud of you all!

Uno and I had another training walk yesterday! His mom has put SOOOOO much work into his obedience and it shows. He's got a fantastic foundation for a 13 month old puppy! Uno and I worked on play as a reward, proofing behaviors, and relaxing/decompressing in new places. Uno can be a busybody so learning to turn "off" can be a tough lifestyle to learn. Great job, Uno!

Reactivity 101 was a HUGE success.

We had 4 dogs in this first round: A Bichon, a Teddy Roosevelt, a Corso, and an Aussie. Each dog presents with fear based reactivity to various triggers: People, dogs, fast movement, children, etc.

These teams came SO far and learned SO much. They have some away with coping mechanisms, new training methods, a good understanding of triggers, trigger stacking, threshold, reward schedules, LAT training, and a little bit of tough love. They have learned that avoidance does NOT work, and we must face our (and our dogs) fears head on to make improvements. They have learned to advocate for their dogs.

My favorite part of class was tonight. We went on a field trip to Lowe's and while I was not positive we would make it inside the building, the dogs showed me they were ready, willing, and able. We went in... around the dogs, the people, the machinery, the Halloween decor, the kids, and not a SINGLE DOG had more than a quick "boof," if that.

While we trained in the store, someone stopped and asked what class this was, and when I told them it was a class for reactive dogs, they were FLOORED! How cool is that?! 4 reactive dogs, in a store being perfectly well behaved citizens. Just amazing!!!

I am so so proud of these teams and can't wait to see them grow further. We will see some of them move on to Reactivity 201, and I will be hosting another Reactivity 101 class later this fall!

NOTE: This is absolutely not AI generated. It's the stupid voice filter. UGH

Anyway, Henry and I had our first training walk today! He doesn't know me very well though he's taken some classes with me, so we spent a lot of time learning to trust and explore the environment.

Very thankful that his mom keeps him on a good grooming schedule: He loved getting into the brush and that means lots of burrs and seeds, but he let me comb them out no problem!
