Unsung hero of the day!

Our friend, foster, volunteer, donor came out today to take care of the kitties in the shelter. Because she was able to do that Casey was able to come help me for a couple hours while I was working the festival.

Thank you Cindy!

Yesterday worked 9am-7:30 drank lots of water and still feel like I lost 10lbs in sweat... My shorts also fit looser. 🤣

Fun thing happened, I saw someone I grew up with in church and haven't seen in 25+yrs.

I just love that.

Today has already seen more sales then yesterday so hopefully we keep this trend up.

Y'all I can't tell you how much he helps us. He has been sick and still took yesterday and today off work to help us. Today he wasn't supposed to have to come but I was struggling to finish setting things out and the heat. So after taking one of our kids who is also sick to the Dr, going to pick Persimmon up from the vet from her surgery and dropping her off at foster he came out to help in the heat and while he was supposed to stay home and take care of kids and Kritters he plans on coming to help tomorrow too.

So much of what I do he is the quiet one doing a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to some of the literal heavy lifting. This was taken last year at another event.

Today he came and helped from about 1-4 in the very hottest of the day because I was still struggling to get finished.

Set up and tear down days are usually the hardest part. Now pray for sales... Today was painfully slow.

I'm gonna miss this little stinker this weekend!
This weekend is our biggest craft show of the year. This is Santa Cal-igon days https://www.facebook.com/share/1QGmr5gbkR/

Weekend, we have a friend who pays the booth fee in and allows us to share the space with her. In exchange I work pretty much every day of the show. It's nearly 1 1/2hrs from the rescue (our home) one way so this year I am staying in the city at my mom's to shorten the drive time.

This is an exhausting and hot but fun weekend that brings much needed funds to the rescue.

We are waiting in line now to get set up.

Please say a prayer for all of us working as it's supposed to be the hottest first week of Sept in a LONG time.

If you are in Independence MO area stop by the festival and check us out! We are booth 511!

I made this video for my volunteers to explain why some of the water pails are in weird places in the cages.....

Socks, Molly and Neck Tie left me a message yesterday (no I didn't get picture of video).

"For our next trick, we are going to knock the black shelf down then throw one of our puzzle food balls from the very top shelf full of dry food into the full water pail.... We will then remove the empty ball and place it next to the pail."

I found a pail full of mushy wet food.... 🤣

Thankfully they were kind enough not to drump the mixture proving to be top notch entertainers leaving me wondering "how did they DO that?" True professionals!

Persimmon update!

Yes reusing the same picture. 🤣

So yes Persimmon has at least 2 pellets in her leg. They are close to the surface so the vet said they will be easy to pop out and put some stitches in.

We are going to do X-rays to confirm there are no more. However she said if there are some deep inside they usually don't cause a problem depending on location. She will do X-rays before removing the 2 and then after to make sure she gets everything.

X-rays cost $130 each and she didn't give me a quote for removing them.

I seem to have gotten quite the medical cases lately. I am so thankful for every donation we get to help these animals. I know we just asked for Skunk, but this is rescue unfortunately. If I didn't ask them we couldn't help the next one etc. Any left over always rolls over to the next one etc. I don't take a pay and I don't have paid employees. Everything we do is because of generous donors and volunteers.

Persimmon came from Paola KS. So right in our community (we mainly take from local), she was found wandering and the local shelter refused intake. We are getting more and more of these cases unfortunately especially as everyone is full.
If you feel led here is how you can donate.

Persimmon aka Simmy is at the vet to get the suspected BB bump looked at. Just another reason why people shouldn't let their cats be outside. Simmy is sweet and loving and didn't deserve this! Another loving girl that is baffled by the fact the staff had the nerve to leave us... 🤣 She keeps watching the doors.
