It makes a huge difference

Collar position, as well as where the lead attaches to the collar can affect how the dog gaits in the show ring.

I recently worked with a dog whose movement had a great deal of lift and bounce, more so than is desirable. I suggested the handler switch the collar so the clip was positioned underneath the neck rather than coming up from the top. The change was immediate. The difference in collar position immediately changed the dog's movement for the better.

Don't be afraid to experiment with equipment and position. Do not experiment in the show ring, experiment at home, in training sessions without distractions and if you decide you want to make a change train your dog to be comfortable with the adjustment.

We all could probably use a little more exercise! Tips on how to provide some fun & exercise for your dogs!!

If your dog is showing any of these tell-tale signs at home–it’s time to increase their mental stimulation and change their exercise plan.

Now that the kids are back to the school, people are feeling things and schedules are getting back to “normal”.

But is the dog feeling depressed and having a bit of separation anxiety? The kids are not around all the time and Parents are busy at work or other activities.

Your dog may need a little help in understanding what the new schedule means.

For many dogs, the back-to-school season is a time when they will start spending more time home alone, but that doesn't have to be the case.

For all of our Regional Chow Clubs, it’s our job as the Parent organization to help & cultivate your activities in support of our beloved breed. And many of you are also involved in your local kennel clubs.

The AKC Club Development group recently had a webinar on how to use AI (artificial intelligence) to help your clubs work smarter and more efficiently. As our activities becomes increasingly complex with less and lesser resources available, we need to all find ways to help make our activities successful with less stress.

Most dog fanciers and exhibitors know there are “rules” for dog shows, but few, other than show committee members have read them.

Did you know there are specific classes and ribbons for some specialty shows?

Because a limited-breed club offers classes for only one group, it may not offer or award Best in Show. At a Limited Breed club event the highest available award is Group First.

Accordingly, limited-breed clubs also may NOT offer or award:

Reserve Best in Show
NOHS Best in Show
Reserve NOHS Best in Show

It’s not a bad idea to be familiar with AKC show rules.
