found this afternoon in Opp Estates.

If this animal is yours, please contact the Opp City Pound at 334-841-1301. Proof of ownership, such as veterinary records or photographs, will be required. Please also have updated proof of Rabies Vaccination for quicker process of release.

This animal will be held for a seven-day stray period and will become available for adoption on the eighth day if not claimed by its owner.

BLACK MOUTH CUR 📖🐾🤓

We have had 2 brindle Black mouth cur mixes just in the last month come through our pound looking for homes. One was adopted into a amazing family and we are so grateful.🥰
We have another one now looking for her forever home ( Jolene).
One thing I noticed about both these girls is how affectioned and loving they really are.
So if your like me and wondering about this breed here are a few things to consider if your thinking of adopting.
With that beautiful, tiger-striped brindle coat and iconic dark muzzle, this dog is a total head-turner. But the real magic is their personality:
✨ Deeply Loyal: Curs are famous for bonding hard with their people. They want to be your sidekick through thick and thin!
✨ Smart & Eager to Please: Ready to learn commands, practice tricks, and be the best behaved dog on the block.
✨ Active & Athletic: The perfect partner for hiking, running, camping, or exploring the outdoors.
What more could you ask for?

Where the Brindle Pattern Comes From

• Foundation Ancestry: The brindle pattern entered the gene pool through early crossings with European hounds, terriers, and molosser/mastiff-type dogs brought by pioneers. In particular, heavy working lines—like those originating from the Ladner lineage—frequently carry the genetics for red, black, and brindle coats.
• The "Black Mouth" Misconception: A common misconception is that a Black Mouth Cur must be solid tan or yellow like Old Yeller. However, the name "Black Mouth" refers strictly to the dark melanistic pigmentation on the lips, muzzle, inner mouth, and gums, not the color of the body fur. A dog can have a beautifully tiger-striped brindle coat and still be a purebred, textbook Black Mouth Cur.
