What a difference training can make when the humans truly put in the work!

Mitzy & Auggie made fantastic progress with their behavior, obedience, and overall manners - and their paw-parents were committed to ensuring they were being the best leaders possible for these two high energy rescues. We even had time to tackle walking on a treadmill for another way to drain needed energy, and these two rose to the occasion! 👏

More smarts than Saturn has moons, enough energy to overwhelm guests that enter the home, and obedience that's already off to a good start... so what's the catch?

This confident trio of rescues has appointed themselves Mission Control at times in their pack with selective hearing. Add in some excitement, pulling and prey drive that's truly out of this world, and walks have felt more like navigating a meteor shower than a relaxing stroll.

Our mission is simple: help their human paw-parents take the captain's seat, channel all that energy into great choices, calm behavior, and get this brilliant trio cruising through the neighborhood on a smooth, steady trajectory. The future is looking bright as all are off to a great start! 👏

ABOUT THE BREEDS...

As tall as 32 inches at the shoulder, Danes tower over most other dogs and when standing on their hind legs, they are taller than most people. These powerful giants are the picture of elegance and balance, with the smooth and easy stride of born noblemen. The coat comes in different colors and patterns, perhaps the best-known being the black-and-white patchwork pattern known as "harlequin." Patient with kids, Danes are people pleasers who make friends easily.

The German Shorthaired Pointer was bred to be a versatile all-round gun dog. It is capable of working in all weathers, on all terrains and in all types of cover; of finding and pointing to game; of retrieving gently both in water and on land; and of following a blood trail to find wounded game. The German Shorthaired Pointer performs well in agility, dock diving, and obedience. They are also used in law enforcement for the detection of illicit substances.

A German Shepherd Poodle mix, commonly called a Shepadoodle or German Doodle, is a designer crossbreed. Highly intelligent, energetic, loyal, and protective, making them great family companions or working dogs. A dog that needs a lot of exercise, consistent training, and (because shepadoodles descend from two working dog breeds) they will be happiest with a job to do.

Welcome SHADOW to the AFDT Pack! 🐾🐕

This handsome 7-month-old Mini Bernedoodle is full of energy, enthusiasm, and personality! Like many young dogs, Shadow is still learning that good manners and self-control are just as important as having fun.

His young family is dedicated to putting in the work, and Shadow is already making progress as he learns boundaries, structure, and how to make better choices. One step at a time, this bundle of energy is heading in the right direction.

We're excited to be part of his journey and can't wait to see what he accomplishes next! 💜

ABOUT THE BREED...
The Bernedoodle is an adorable designer breed (aka. hybrid breed) that is growing in popularity. They are sometimes called a Bernese Poodle, Bernese Mountain Poo, Bernese Mountain Doodle or Bernepoo.

The Bernedoodle dog breed is a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. The first purposely bred Bernedoodles were created in 2003. They were bred by Sherry Rupke of Swissridge Kennels in Ontario, Canada. Sherry was a breeder of both Bernese Mountain Dogs and Labradoodles. She was saddened to see that the purebred Bernese Mountain Dogs had short life spans (around 8 years). Crossing purebred dogs of different breeds helps to lower the chance of genetic problems, so she crossed a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Poodle.

The first Bernedoodle puppies were healthy, adorable and had a friendly demeanor. She then began a formal breeding program for them. Many people all around the world now breed Bernedoodles however they are most commonly found in the USA and Canada. They were first bred in Australia in 2014 but they are not as common here.

WELCOME TO THE PACK...Ottis! 🐾🐕

Recently rescued and already stealing hearts, Ottis is a 2-year-old Pug with a reluctance to go up or down stairs and a habit of greeting with youthful exuberance (those paws and toenails can leave a mark 😆.)

Despite his enthusiasm, he's also calm, quick to learn, and off to a fantastic start with his new owner. Welcome to the Pack, Ottis! 💜

ABOUT THE BREED...
The Pug is an ancient, small toy dog breed originating from China over 2,000 years ago. Renowned for their wrinkly, flat faces, big dark eyes, and tightly curled tails, Pugs are deeply affectionate, playful, and even-tempered companions that thrive on human love and indoor cuddling. Pugs originated as prized lapdogs for emperors in ancient Chinese palaces. They traveled to Europe via trading companies in the 16th century, becoming favorites of nobility, including Dutch royalty, Marie Antoinette, and Queen Victoria.

Pugs are known for being loving and charming pets that get along great with children and other animals. They are highly playful and a bit silly yet calm enough to adapt easily to apartment or city living. They are known for unique vocal sounds like snorting, wheezing, and snoring rather than heavy barking. They come in three colors: silver or apricot-fawn with a black face mask, or all black.

This cutie patootie, a 10-month old Terrier mix (possibly Jack Russell Terrier mix), is full of energy, enthusiasm, and personality! Like many young dogs, Olive is still learning that good manners and self-control are just as important as having fun.

Her paw-parents are dedicated to putting in the work, and Olive is already making progress as she learns calmness on a leash, boundaries, structure, and how to make better choices. One step at a time, this rescue who was found roaming the streets in Oklahoma City, is heading in the right direction.

ABOUT THE BREED...
Lively, energetic, smart and friendly, the Jack Russell Terrier is a well-known family pet. They may be small and adorable, but they pack lots of personality into their compact body. Originally a working dog, they have plenty of energy and stamina, backed by intelligence and an ability to learn fast.

Jack Russell’s may be small, but they are strong and agile and can jump up to 1.5 metres high. That’s over four times their height! So, if you have a Jack Russell, it’s important to make sure your fencing is both tall and secure enough to prevent backyard escapes. Jack Russell Terriers need plenty of physical and mental stimulation to prevent boredom and destructiveness. Their intelligence and high energy levels make these dogs well suited to a variety of dog sports including flyball or agility. These dogs need plenty of exercise and firm, consistent training to keep them happy, entertained and well behaved.
