Workshops
Rosalind Philips Photography shares Rosalind's love of nature and photography through workshops. The workshops emphasize a hand-on approach towards learning photography and photo-editing skills. Three types of workshops are offered; Photography, Computer Techniques and Fields Trips. The Photography workshops center around the demonstration of a technique and then an opportunity for participants to practice the technique. After practice, participants are invited to share their work with everyone for discussion. After the discussion, we either practice some more or move on to the next technique. Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops and photo-editing software. The software used for demonstration purposes is Photoshop Elements 11. Animal Companion Portraits

I've put this quiet image of a Galapagos sea lion pup on a pillow. The pup is nestled against an adult, and that tiny heart-shaped nose always makes me smile. The Galapagos sea lion is endemic to the islands, and you can tell it from a true seal by its external ears. Three tiny chicks sat in a cup-shaped nest, mouths open, while a parent leaned in to feed them. The nest was woven from moss, lichen, and spider webs and even stretched as the chicks grew. I watched it several times over 10 days as the female returned every 15 to 40 minutes to feed her hungry chicks. I put that quiet, everyday moment on a tote bag so you can carry a bit of it with you. I wanted to share All Rights Reserved. There’s a broad-shouldered grizzly resting on a dusty slope, head lowered and eyes half-closed. Muted tones and solid forms give the scene a quiet, rugged presence. A small trace of a recent meal at its paws keeps the moment honest rather than staged. On a rainy morning along Alaska's Sterling Highway I was headed to Seward when a cow moose started splashing in a bog. We made a quick U-turn and pulled over, and a shaft of sunlight lit her just as the moment unfolded. The energy of that instant still feels fresh to me. Sea Lion Pup, a Galapagos youngster with that unmistakable heart-shaped nose, rests tucked against an adult. You can even spot the small external ear that marks it as a sea lion. I’m drawn to the calm rhythm of the rounded shapes and the quiet details—the glossy eye, the whiskers, the sandy specks—that make it feel present without asking for attention. Here’s a quiet scene from Paradise Valley Loop Road at Mt. Rainier. A hoary marmot sunbathing in the evening light, about the size of a house cat and often called a whistle pig for its sharp alarm call. I made this image into a throw pillow so you can bring a little of that calm, watchful energy into a living room or study. I named this one SplashingMug. A lone moose charges through shallow marsh, each powerful stride throwing water into an arc of light. Wet fur beads with droplets that catch the sun, and tall grasses frame the sweep of movement, while the animal’s lifted leg and turned ear suggest both momentum and alertness. A hoary marmot sunbathing in the evening light along Paradise Valley Loop Road at Mount Rainier National Park. I came across a couple of spots where you can reliably see them in the morning and late afternoon. They’re sometimes called whistle pigs and are about the size of a house cat.
